Arsenal could welcome Martin Odegaard back tonight for their Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich.

The Gunners have been without their skipper since early October, missing eight games with a knee injury.

Sunday’s north London derby came too soon for the midfielder – with Eberechi Eze punishing Tottenham in his absence – but Odegaard was back in full training on Tuesday at London Colney and is in contention to return to the side tonight.

Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke meanwhile were back among the subs on Sunday on a day where Mikel Merino once again led the line in the absence of Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international has missed Arsenal’s last three games after limping off in the win over Burnley at the start of the month with a suspected hamstring injury.

Gyokeres was not in training on Tuesday with Arteta later confirming his striker is not available tonight and will undergo further scans to determine his availability for the trip to Chelsea on Sunday.

The same applies to Kai Havertz, who has not featured since the opening weekend of the season. The Germany international underwent what was described as ‘minor’ knee surgery but could be in contention to feature against his old club this weekend.

Gabriel Magalhaes will be out for the next four weeks at least with Piero Hincapié given the nod at centre-half alongside William Saliba on Sunday.

Cristhian Mosquera will hope it is his turn to come in tonight.

Arsenal XI to face Bayern Munich – Metro prediction

It’s a delicate balance for Arteta with that huge game against second place Chelsea looming – the Blues looked in fine form as they swept aside Barcelona on Tuesday.

The availability of Madueke and Martinelli is a boost but Arteta has a big decision to make on whether to start Odegaard or save him for the weekend.
