In an interview with Sirius XM NFL radio, Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back phenom Ashton Jeanty called quarterback Geno Smith the biggest trash talker on the Las Vegas offense.
“Geno…he talks a little smack,” Jeanty said (h/t @houserules789). “I like it, especially coming from the quarterback.”
Show host and NFL insider Pat Kirwan agreed with Jeanty, saying that Smith often acts like he isn’t a big trash talker, but secretly is.
Smith, 34, and Jeanty, 21, are both in their first season playing for a new-look, Chip Kelly-led offense with Las Vegas. They’ll face a lot of doubters after the Raiders went 4-13 last season, and continue to play in one of the toughest divisions in NFL history.
It will be entertaining if Smith talks a big game, but the important thing is that he backs it up and wins a lot of games with Las Vegas.
Smith Already Making Headlines For Trash Talk, Confrontations
It’s only his first offseason in Las Vegas, and he hasn’t played a down in the Silver and Black yet, but Raiders fans and insiders have already been treated to a bit of trash talk and a few fiery outbursts from Geno Smith.
Back on June 29, 2025, Smith got into a heated confrontation on the sideline of a 7-on-7 youth football game that he was coaching in.
Then, on July 22, 2025, Smith dropped an all-time quote during Raiders media availability.
“I didn’t come to Vegas to roll the dice … I came to run the table,” Smith said.
Smith has a history of dropping legendary quotes in interviews. Back in 2022, after his first win as the Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback, Smith dropped one of the most iconic quotes in NFL history.
“They wrote me off, I ain’t write back though,” Smith said.
Smith’s most recent moment came right before the Raiders’ first preseason game versus the Seahawks on August 7, 2025.
A Seahawks fan, standing right by the Raiders tunnel, held a sign that said “Bigger bust – Geno or Jamarcus Russell?” Not exactly a warm welcome back for a QB that led Las Vegas to the playoffs.
So Smith flipped the guy off with both hands, and Raiders superstar EDGE rusher Maxx Crosby followed suit.
The 2025 regular season is sure to be full of more iconic moments for Smith.
Jeanty Talks His Own Approach To Trash Talk
During the Sirius XM interview, Kirwan also asked Ashton Jeanty about his personal approach to trash talk. He had heard from Raiders teammates that Jeanty was on the quieter side.
“I’m more like a silent killer,” Jeanty said. “I love when a guy’s talking trash, all types of stuff. But you just go and show them between the lines, I don’t really got to say too much.”
Jeanty struck fear into a lot of opposing defenses last season just by standing there, in his iconic straight up stance, ready to slice them up in a historic way. Having one of the greatest college running back seasons of all time will certainly do all the talking for you.
Raiders fans, are you excited to see more trash talk from Geno Smith this season?
