The Atlanta Falcons‘ 2025 NFL season has not gone as planned. Entering the season, they had the excitement of a young, first-year starting quarterback in Michael Penix, Jr. to go with a couple of elite weapons in running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London. Heck, they even spent two first-round draft picks to improve the pass rush and add a spark to an otherwise lackluster defense in recent years.
But, in August, hope springs eternal. In mid November, it’s the harsh truths that come with the reality of a regular season. Regardless of who deserves the blame, the Falcons are 3-6 and in danger of having their season spiral out of control.
So, they don’t need the media and Facebook looking for problems that – according to head coach Raheem Morris – don’t exist.
Penix recently set off a firestorm when he said in his press conference on Wednesday that he has his fiancee and some of his old coaches to lean on in tough times. Well, that was all the mob needed as they extrapolated that statement to mean that no one on the team supports him.
Too many people with too much time on their hands?
Atlanta Falcons’ head coach says the Michael Penix comments are ridiculous
On Friday, Morris said this is all nonsense and lashed out at the media.
“Stop looking for stuff on a young man,” Morris said. “You don’t need this stuff on him. It is what it is. But all of those things people do, it doesn’t matter to affect this building.
“I just feel bad for the kid. I don’t want the kid having to deal with stuff that doesn’t matter or stuff that’s not real..Let his problems be his problems, like third downs. Let’s fix those. Don’t make up [a thing] that doesn’t exist.”
Morris went on to say that he and Penix were joking about it this week and that the young signal caller has plenty of coaches and players in his corner.

So, when things like this happen, they end up being a distraction less because of what is said by some basement dwellers on social media, and more because now every single member of the organization will get asked about it like they care.
“I don’t even pay attention to it, to be honest with you,” quarterbacks coach D.J. Williams said. “As long as we know. I mean, everything else is just elevator music.”
I’m sure this is exactly what Bijan feels like talking about too, as opposed to discussing the challenges facing them as they battle an important divisional opponent in the Carolina Panthers this Sunday.
“Everybody’s here to help,” Robinson said. “Everybody wants you to succeed at the end of the day. So for us, everybody in this building, we all got each other’s back. That’s why I tell everybody, the outside world, the external world is going to try to divide us and try hard. So we got to keep our faith high, and that’s just going to push us through.”
