Catch up on all of the latest ATP action with Heavy’s Wimbledon Day 1/2 recap.

Wimbledon action is underway from SW19, and so far, fans have been treated to two days of heart-pounding action.

On the opening day of this year’s tournament, a number of notable names were upset, including former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, 2021  finalist Matteo Berrettini, No. 8 seed Holger Rune, and former World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Notably, two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who enters this year’s tournament eager to join Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic as just the fifth player to win three straight Wimbledon titles, nearly fell to Fabio Fognini in a hard-fought five-set affair.

In addition, fan-favorites Andrey Rublev and Frances Tiafoe picked up first-round wins of their own, along with Britain’s own Cameron Norrie.

Teenage standouts João Fonseca and Learner Tien also notably picked up wins in their Wimbledon debuts, with both players claiming straight-set wins on Monday.

The opening day of ATP action also saw two notable matches suspended due to curfew.

When action resumed on day two, U.S. No. 1 Taylor Fritz was able to close out an impressive comeback against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard after going down two sets to love on Monday.  Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky.

After his opening-round match with Arthur Rinderknech resumed on Tuesday, the World No. 3 wound up suffering a stunning upset, marking his third straight Grand Slam loss after going up either two sets to love, or 2-1.

Wimbledon Day Two ATP Recap

After an entertaining opening day of ATP action, fans were treated to some more high-stakes play on day two.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic both emerged victorious from their respective matches, while No. 4 seed Jack Draper advanced to the second round after Sebastian Baez was forced to retire down two sets to love.

Day two’s action also notably saw Americans Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton advance to the second round, along with Australian standout Alex de Minaur, who picked up a straight-set win over Roberto Carballes Baena on Court 18.

Several notable veterans of the game also managed to pick up big wins on Tuesday, with former finalist Marin Čilić claiming a dominant win over Raphael Collignon, fan-favorite Gael Monfils picking up a hard-fought win over No. 18 seed Ugo Humbert, and Grigor Dimitrov defeating Yoshihito Nishioka.

Additionally, Tuesday’s action provided several upsets as well, with Alexander Bublik, who entered the tournament following an ATP 500 title in Halle, falling to Jaume Munar, and Lorenzo Musetti falling to Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Wimbledon Day Three ATP Preview

Centre Court action will pick up on Wednesday with a match between Carlos Alcaraz and qualifier Oliver Tarvet, who entered this year’s tournament ranked 719 in the world.

Meanwhile, Court 1 will play host to a match between Cameron Norrie and Frances Tiafoe, as well as a match between Taylor Fritz and Gabriel Diallo. In the case of the Norrie-Tiafoe match, both players will notably be looking to gain an edge in their head-to-head, which has seen them split wins over their four previous meetings.

Over on Court 3, Andrey Rublev will look to pick up his fourth straight win over Lloyd Harris, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will collide with Botic van de Zandschulp.

Additionally on Court 12, João Fonseca will look to keep the momentum rolling against Jenson Brooksby following the American’s recent loss to Taylor Fritz in the finals of the Eastbourne Open.
