Austin Reaves Reveals Next Step in Friendship With Luka Doncic

The duo of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves has been one of the best in the NBA this season. Their bromance off the court has also put a lot of smiles on Los Angeles Lakers fans’ faces. Their postgame antics have gone viral every time, and Reaves is ready to take the next step in their friendship.

Speaking to reporters after the Lakers’ 133-121 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, Reaves revealed that he plans on visiting Doncic in Slovenia next summer.

“I told him last summer I was coming. He didn’t tell me no, but he didn’t tell me yes. But next summer I’m going to be there. I don’t know if he’s gonna welcome me, but I’m coming for sure,” Reaves said, via Silver Screen and Roll.

It’s going to be a very interesting summer for the Lakers, mainly because of Reaves and his contract. He has a player option for next season, which he’s expected to opt out of and become a free agent.

Maybe Doncic could use their time together next offseason in Slovenia to convince Reaves to stay in Los Angeles. He has always found success playing alongside scoring guards like Jalen Brunson, Kyrie Irving, and now Reaves.

Suns Snap Doncic and Reaves Scoring Streak

Entering Monday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves were looking to extend their 30-plus scoring streak to four games. Doncic and Austin became just the fourth duo in NBA history to have 30-plus points each in three consecutive games after the win over New Orleans, as per NBA.com.

However, the streak was easily snapped by the Suns following an easy 125-108 win at Crypto.com Arena. Doncic did his part, finishing with 38 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, while Reaves came up short with just 16 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Lakers played terribly as a collective, with Doncic also turning the ball over a whopping nine times. Their defense was nearly nonexistent, something that should infuriate coach JJ Redick.

They allowed 33 points to Dillon Brooks and 28 points to Collin Gillespie, who both stepped up after Devin Booker was ruled out after the first quarter with a groin injury.

Reaves Explains Perfect Fit to Doncic

Despite their loss to the Suns, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves are a perfect fit in the backcourt for the Lakers. They are still the highest-scoring duo in the NBA, which is hard to fathom, especially with how bad Reaves played in the playoffs.

Reaves told the media after Sunday’s win against New Orleans why he has developed so much chemistry with Doncic on the court.

“He draws a lot of attention, and then I’m able to play advantage basketball, basically, on the backside of that. The gravity that he has on the court, it’s impossible to guard him any certain way because of his ability to pass the ball, his unselfishness and his shot making ability,” Reaves said, via Lakers Nation.

The 27-year-old guard added that he’s always at an advantage because of Doncic, and he even thought that the Lakers’ offense hasn’t reached its full potential.
