Bears QB Caleb Williams Disrespected Before Packers Game

As of Monday, December 1, Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears are officially one of the hottest teams in the NFL and at the top of not only the NFC North but the entire NFC tally.

What a difference a year makes. Last season, the Bears closed out the 2024-25 season with a 5-12 record and in the very last spot in the NFC North. Williams, in his rookie year, wasn’t making waves in the NFL, and it was a disappointing season overall. This season, they have a 9-3 record, Williams is wowing crowds and the Bears are playoff favorites.

Ben Johnson has made the difference. The former offensive coordinator from the Detroit Lions was one of the most sought-after candidates in the head NFL coaching pool last season, and he wanted to coach the Bears. Now, he’s led the kind of turnaround that should earn him NFL Coach of the Year honors.

But, sometimes there’s a lag, and people in the NFL just don’t understand that this team has completely turned around, Williams included. Now, Williams is getting disrespected, but at least it gives him a chance to prove them wrong.

Caleb Williams Deserves More Respect for Leading the Chicago Bears

Williams is putting up stellar numbers this season. According to research from the Bears Wire using Stathead, Williams has closed out 26 consecutive games without throwing multiple interceptions. That ties him with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts for the top stat in the NFL. That’s just one of his stats from this season.

But, he’s still lagging in the MVP race. It’s surprising Williams isn’t more respected and higher on the tally. According to research from Peter Dewey of SI, Williams is No. 8 in odds to get MVP this season. If he leads the Bears deep into the playoffs, that, of course, will change, but right now, he’s behind Sam Darnold and Jordan Love, to name a few.

He at least got “honorable mention” in the piece, with Dewey noting that Williams, “has the Bears at 9-3 and atop the NFC after Week 13. Williams hasn’t put up the best numbers, but Chicago has now won five games in a row and upset Philly – in Philly – in Week 13.”

Ben Johnson Praises the Chicago Bears

After the Bears’ win over the Eagles on Friday, November 28, Johnson praised his team. “Just really proud of everybody involved,” Johnson said. “Short week, we really haven’t had one of those yet as a team.”

He added, “I thought the coaching staff did a great job putting a sound plan together. We knew it was going to be a race trying to get everything in and kind of harping on the guys that the details were going to be the difference here this week and the team that made the least number of mistakes was probably going to win this game. Fortunately for us, we felt like that fell in our favor.”

Even though the Bears have been winning all season, critics were saying that they weren’t beating championship teams. That changed with their wins over the Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. Look out, NFL, because the Bears are the real deal.
