Bears Receive Major Injury Update on Colston Loveland After Cowboys Win

The Chicago Bears have received some good news about the injury to first-round rookie tight end Colston Loveland following their win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Loveland — the No. 10 overall pick in 2025 — exited in the second quarter of Sunday’s 31-14 win over the Cowboys and went into the team’s blue medical tent on the sideline to be evaluated for a hip injury. The Bears held him out for the remainder of the game.

Fortunately for Chicago, the outlook seems positive for Loveland heading into Week 4, according to the latest injury update from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday morning.

“Bears TE Colston Loveland’s hip injury is not believed to be serious and he is expected to have a chance to play Sunday at the Raiders, per source,” Schefter reported on X.

The Bears won’t likely have a definitive update on Loveland’s availability for Week 4’s road game against the Las Vegas Raiders until the end of the week when they put out their final injury report, but they could offer some clues in Wednesday’s initial report.

The Bears (1-2) will kick off against the Raiders (1-2) at 4:25 p.m. ET next Sunday.

Colston Loveland Has Played Limited Role as Rookie

Schefter’s injury update on Loveland is encouraging for his playing status against the Raiders in Week 4, but the Bears have not exactly made use of their top-10 overall pick as regularly as many expected they would through the first three weeks of his career.

According to Pro Football Focus, Loveland has run 47 routes on 54 pass-play snaps for the Bears in his first three games, but he has received just six total targets, bringing in three of them for 47 yards. At this point, he has not even received enough targets or played enough passing snaps to receive a season grade from the analytics website.

Encouragingly, Loveland did seem to become a bigger focus for the Bears in Sunday’s win over the Cowboys before he exited with his hip injury early in the second quarter.

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams threw him a deep ball on the first play of the opening drive, though they failed to connect. The Bears went back to Loveland on the next drive, this time watching him haul in a 31-yard catch that kick-started their first scoring drive.

Even still, for a team that had several other critical draft needs, the Bears have not done an excellent job of showcasing their No. 10 pick’s value through his first three games. And with an injury now in play, it is unclear how quickly that might change for them.

Will Bears Take Step Forward With Injuries in Week 4?

Loveland’s hip injury is one the Bears must monitor as they prepare this week to play at the Raiders, but his is not the only injury that Chicago has to worry about for Week 4.

The Bears are still down two defensive starters between slot cornerback Kyler Gordon (hamstring) and linebacker T.J. Edwards (hamstring). Gordon has not played in any of the Bears’ first three games after re-aggravating a hamstring injury that slowed him in training camp ahead of their season opener against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1.

Meanwhile, Edwards — who played in Week 1 — has missed two consecutive games with his own hamstring injury that kept him from participating at all in last week’s practices.

Gordon’s injury is likely the more impactful of the two, especially after the Bears placed All-Pro cornerback Jaylon Johnson on injured reserve last week with a groin injury that could hold him out for the remainder of the 2025 regular season. The Bears also did not have one of their depth corners, Jaylon Jones (hamstring), due to an injury in Week 3.
