The Chicago Bears are experiencing the kind of turnaround season they’ve wanted for years now, and on Sunday, December 14, they’ll have the opportunity to get one step closer to the postseason. But, to get to that postseason and get far in the playoffs, the team has to start connecting better on offense, and that includes quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver DJ Moore.
The Bears with their 9-4 record are up against the 3-10 Cleveland Browns on Sunday, and while they’re heavily favored to win, it’s never a given in the NFL. But, if the Bears pull off a win, they’ll have a 69% chance of making it to the postseason. They currently have a 61% chance, according to NFL research, and will have a 43% chance if they lose.
Wide receiver Rome Odunze returned to practice Thursday, December 11, on a limited basis following his foot injury, and when he was gone, it seemed like a good opportunity for Moore to step it up and clock big numbers. But, that didn’t happen. Moore closed out last week’s game with just three targets and on catch for minus-four yards. So, how does the coaching staff feel about Moore?
Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator Talks DJ Moore
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle talked about Moore and the current state of the Chicago Bears’ offensive.
“He’s a very explosive player with the ball in his hands,” Doyle said of Moore. “Obviously, now getting to work with him, I really enjoy the person. I enjoy, you know, who he is in the building and same guy every day, but he’s a guy that is a weapon when you use him, and you know, he’s done a good job. Every time we’ve asked him to go do something, he’s doing it.”
Doyle also explained why Moore hasn’t been getting the ball more. He explained that it’s because the Bears have a strong roster of offensive players to which Williams can throw.
Doyle explained of the players on their offensive, “We try to move them all around. There’s a lot of guys that we’re trying to target, and so he gets moved around a little bit.”
Declan Doyle Says Chicago Bears’ DJ Moore is a ‘Smart Player’
Later, Doyle also praised Moore for being versatile, stating, “He’s a smart player, so we feel really comfortable moving him to different spots and so that can be a negative or a strength depending on where we’re trying to go with the ball. But, I just would say about DJ, he’s done a great job of doing exactly what we’ve asked of him and he continues to do so.”
So, Doyle is making it sound as if Chicago and Moore are solid. There’s been talk and tensions about Williams and Moore not having the on-field chemistry that many think is needed between a star quarterback and wide receiver, but Doyle is hush-hush on any of those discussions. The look that he’s giving the NFL is that the Bears are all in on Moore.
