As NFL insider Dianna Russini recently reported, the New York Jets are among several teams monitoring the trade market for potential wide receiver additions. One name who could make sense for New York, and provide an emotional storyline in the process, is Chicago Bears wide receiver Tyler Scott.
The Jets, still searching for reliable depth behind Garrett Wilson, have a chance to make a move that would reunite Scott with his former quarterback, Justin Fields. In this trade pitch, the Bears would send Scott to the Jets for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
While modest in value, the deal could be mutually beneficial, especially with the Bears’ deep receiver room and the Jets’ urgent need for a wide receiver.
Tyler Scott’s Untapped Potential and Reuniting with Justin Fields
At just 23 years old, Scott is still in the very early stages of his NFL journey. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the University of Cincinnati product entered the league with high hopes and a blazing 4.44 40-yard dash time. The speedster admitted he was “starstruck” when he first became teammates with Fields, someone he had watched closely during Fields’ days at Ohio State.
That awe quickly turned into admiration, not just for Fields’ talent but also for his character. Scott told NBC Sports Chicago that Fields’ professionalism stood out during a turbulent 2023 season filled with constant questions about the quarterback’s future in Chicago. Fields handled the spotlight with poise and, in doing so, earned the respect and trust of his young teammate.
“He’s a pro,” Scott said. “Even through this whole situation of like not knowing if he’s going to come back and having to be the face and leader of a franchise and having to lead a team and go out and deal with all that. He’s handled it like a complete pro.”
On the field, Scott’s rookie season showed flashes of his potential. While his stat line of 17 receptions for 168 yards may seem modest, it’s important to note that Scott was part of a crowded receiver group that included DJ Moore and Darnell Mooney.
Even with limited opportunities, Scott demonstrated his speed and ability to stretch the field, providing a glimpse into the kind of playmaker he could become with more consistent targets.
Pairing Scott back with Fields in New York would give the young receiver a chance to grow alongside a quarterback he already trusts, and one who knows how to maximize his strengths.
The Bears’ Perspective on the Move
For the Bears, the decision to move on from Scott wouldn’t be a lack of belief in his ability. Instead, it would reflect the team’s current roster reality.
Chicago has made major investments at wide receiver since Scott arrived in 2023, with Moore, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Olamide Zaccheaus all expected to lead the wideout group. That leaves Scott in a tough situation.
By sending him to the Jets, the Bears would be giving him a chance to reunite with Fields and carve out a larger role, while also recouping future draft capital in the process.
For Justin Fields and Tyler Scott, it would be a second chance to build on the chemistry they developed in Chicago.
