Ben Johnson Gets Concerning Bears Prediction

The Chicago Bears are going through an exciting time as a franchise, because they’ve had a complete overhaul since last season. The Bears, of course, have a new head coach in Ben Johnson, who came from the Detroit Lions. Johnson was one of the most coveted head coach candidates during the offseason, and the Bears made sure to lock him in right away.

Johnson is an offensive-minded coach, so he’ll likely do wonders with quarterback Caleb Williams, who signed with the team in 2024 and had a lukewarm rookie season. Most in the NFL think that Johnson is really going to take the Bears to new heights in 2025 and bring the team the comeback they’ve wanted for so long. But, he’s not totally off the hook.

This is Johnson’s first run as a head coach, and not everyone thinks he’s the safest coach in the league. While certain coaches in the NFL are obviously in the hot seat this season, like Brain Daboll and Mike McDaniel, a new tally has Johnson higher on the roster than some might think.

How Hot is Chicago Bears HC Ben Johnson’s Seat?

The NFL season will officially kick off on September 4 with the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 4, so it’s inching closer. In a feature published June 23 by USA Today, Jacob Camenker ranks all of the NFL’s head coaches in terms of how much they’re in the hot seat.

No. 1 is a no-brainer: Giants head coach Daboll. The team was 3-14 last season, and they brought Daboll back again, so it’s a make or break year for him. “The Giants kept Daboll entrenched as their coach for 2025, but owner John Mara said he has “just about run out of patience” with his coach in a postseason news conference,” Camenker notes in the piece.

So, where is Johnson? He’s ranked No. 19 and also included in the first-year head coaches category above three other first-year coaches.

“Johnson was one of the most coveted coaching candidates on the market and is being tasked with developing Caleb Williams into a quality starting quarterback,” Camenker notes. “The former Lions offensive coordinator will likely be given time to reshape the offense in his image, a process that has already begun this offseason.”

So, Camenker doesn’t say anything bad about Johnson, but it’s a bit concerning that he’s No. 19 out of all of the coaches when it comes to seat hotness. I’m sure he isn’t losing sleep over it, though. This guy is on fire, and it would be a shock for him not to deliver.

A Rookie Who Could Help

Johnson is already getting rave reviews for his draft class this season. In an ESPN story out June 16, Bears reporter Courtney Cronin picked Colston Loveland as her favorite NFC North rookie. She gushes over him and even compares him to the Lions’ Sam LaPorta.

“Teams don’t draft tight ends in the top 10 without expecting them to make an immediate impact,” Cronin says. “With Johnson calling the shots, Loveland could be the type of weapon that Sam LaPorta was for the Lions as a rookie (10 touchdowns).”
