Bengals Declined Massive Trade Offer for Joe Burrow: Report

Trade rumors continue to swirl around Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow.

Burrow has been doing these rumors no favors in his recent press conferences. They carry a tone of a superstar player that is disgruntled and does not want to commit long-term to the franchise.

In the defense of the Bengals, they do win games for the most part when Burrow himself can actually stay healthy. The Bengals are are 41-32-1 in games where Burrow starts.

As trade rumors continue to swirl, a new report has come out. It is a report covering the Miami Dolphins attempting a trade before the 2020 NFL Draft.

Dolphins Offered Bengals a Haul for Joe Burrow

The report comes from legendary ESPN journalist Adam Schefter. Consider his report from December 20th:

Long before the Dolphins benched Tua Tagovailoa and turned to rookie Quinn Ewers, they made a push to land the quarterback they’ll face Sunday — Joe Burrow.

Before the 2020 NFL draft, the Dolphins offered the Bengals four first-round picks in exchange for the No. 1 selection and the ability to draft Burrow, league sources told ESPN.

The Bengals declined to even engage in discussions and shut down the trade inquiry before it could gain any traction, according to sources.”

The Cincinnati Bengals declined the massive trade offer. Four first round picks is franchise-changing. However, so was the acquisition of Joe Burrow. The Dolphins went on to draft Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick of that draft.

Dolphins Living With the Reality of the Trade Being Declined

The Dolphins have decided to bench Tua Tagovailo. He has been relegated to the emergency QB for Miami on Sunday against the Bengals.

Adam Schefter also reports that the Dolphins are preparing to move the quarterback this off-season. Schefter explained it would be very complicated for Miami to pull off.

He likens it to the Houston Texans‘ trading away of Brock Osweiler in 2017. The Dolphins may have to find a trade suitor and provide them with additional draft compensation to take on some of the money.

Cincinnati In Tough Place with Joe Burrow

The Bengals obviously came away the winner of this one. However, five years later, Burrow’s future in Cincinnati looks particularly bleak.

Could the Bengals really move on from Joe Burrow? Yes, it’s the NFL and anything can happen. Obviously they would not prefer to, but something may have to give with Burrow’s obvious current dissatisfaction.
