The Cincinnati Bengals were dealt a devastating blow in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, with superstar quarterback Joe Burrow going down with a toe injury. Jake Browning came in to replace him and ended up scoring the game-winning touchdown.
Despite the late-game heroics by Browning, the Bengals’ season took a turn for the worse, with Burrow set to be sidelined for at least three months following surgery to repair the turf toe injury.
With Burrow on the mend due to an in-season injury, the superstar quarterback broke his silence about dealing with the setback and a long recovery process on his Instagram account on Friday.

“This game will break your heart,” Burrow said. “See you soon.”
There’s no question that when healthy and on the field, Burrow is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL. He’s among the elite class of quarterbacks in the league today, mentioned in the same breath as fellow superstars Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.
Unfortunately, Burrow hasn’t had much luck staying healthy from one year to the next. The LSU product played in only 10 games during his rookie campaign and 10 games during the 2023 campaign. It remains to be seen how many games he’ll be able to play this season after a lengthy recovery process.
Browning will have to shoulder the load in the meantime, which doesn’t bode well for the Bengals’ having success during the 2025 campaign.

In Week 3, the Bengals had to pick themselves up after seeing their undisputed leader go down with an injury that would cost him three months of the 2025 NFL season. Browning was given a tall task of having to fill the shoes of one of the best quarterbacks in the league, even though he has star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to throw to downfield.
Even though the Vikings found themselves in a similar situation, with J.J. McCarthy suffering an ankle injury, forcing the team to turn to journeyman Carson Wentz, Minnesota came to play in Week 3, as their offense was virtually unstoppable.
Wentz and company ended up dropping 48 points on the Bengals’ defense, with Cincinnati’s offense only managing 10 points of their own, resulting in the team’s first loss of the season.
Obviously, it is still very early in the season, as the Bengals will have a chance to bounce back with a vengeance in Week 4 and beyond to salvage this season, which might’ve been derailed by Burrow’s costly injury.
In Week 4, the Bengals will stay on the road, heading to the Mile High City to take on Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos. Bo Nix and company are also coming off a loss, as they were unable to contain Justin Herbert and the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers.
Denver will be desperate for a win coming into this matchup with Cincinnati, as they have dropped two straight games, with a resurgent Daniel Jones leading the Indianapolis Colts to victory over the Broncos in Week 2.
