Bengals’ QB Joe Flacco Dealing with Shoulder Injury

T

he problems keep adding up for the Cincinnati Bengals. After quarterback Joe Burrow went down early in the season with a toe injury, the team found themselves on a major losing streak, going from 2-0 to 2-4 without Burrow, forcing them to make a trade for veteran quarterback, Joe Flacco. Flacco, who started the season with the Cleveland Browns, has provided a spark for the Bengals and has looked like a good option to lead the team until Burrow comes back.

But in a thrilling game in week eight that ultimately saw the Bengals lose 39-38 to the New York Jets, Flacco went to the locker room late in the game for an unknown reason even though he did not miss a snap. But on Monday, Oct. 27, head coach Zac Taylor revealed why Flacco went to the locker room– he suffered a shoulder injury. But according to Taylor, Flacco’s injury is not that serious.

Taylor’s Update on Flacco

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Flacco suffered the shoulder injury after a hit from Jets‘ pass rusher, Will McDonald. And while Flacco will be on the injury report this week, Taylor said that he was feeling good after the game and is listed as day-to-day.

“I had something happen, wasn’t feeling 100 percent,” Flacco said after the game via a team transcript. “Just trying to make sure something was right. . . . Landed a little awkward. I feel good right now.”

Flacco went into the locker room in the fourth quarter while the Bengals were on defense, but was in there only briefly before coming out for the last drive. Despite the loss, Flacco continued his hot start to his Bengals’ career, throwing for 223 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while putting together his third straight game of zero interceptions.

Flacco So Far With the Bengals

Flacco struggled with the Browns, throwing only two touchdowns compared to six interceptions. But since joining the Bengals, Flacco has looked like a completely different quarterback, with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions thrown in three games with the Bengals. At 40-years-old and only starting until Burrow comes back, Flacco has looked very good and has proven that he can still play at a high level.

But in the midst of a good run by Flacco, the Bengals’ season still hangs in the balance. At 3-5, the Bengals cannot afford to lose many more games, or else they will be out of playoff contention well before Burrow comes back. If Flacco and the Bengals can string together some wins in the next couple of months, then they could be in firm position to return to the postseason– especially if Burrow returns.
