Bengals Shake Things up with Front Office Changes

Amid contract negotiation disputes, the Cincinnati Bengals have decided to shake things up. Not one or two, but three new assistant general managers have been named.

With rookies reporting to camp today (July 19), Shemar Stewart will not be in attendance. He’s the lone first round pick not to sign his contract, with Bengals fans hopeful that these coaching changes can get things back on track.

Mike Potts, Steven Radicevic, and Trey Brown Named Assistant General Managers

A few other front office changes were made, with these three headlining the news. That trio will work under Duke Tobin, the team’s director of player personnel.

Brown is a huge name for the Bengals to keep as he’s interviewed for general manager openings in the past. The team has enjoyed his presence as Tobin commented on the severity of their new roles.

“Steve, Mike, and Trey work in all areas of the club and assist me in every aspect,” Tobin told Geoff Hobson. “They’re highly capable. They’re impactful in all areas of personnel. We felt like this title fit their role with us.”

Three assistant general managers means there’s room to fill other positions. Upon their promotion, Andrew Johnson has been named as the scouting executive. Tyler Ramsey and Josh Hinch are both listed as scouts. Finally, Trey Labounty is the team’s scouting research analyst.

Amid these changes, Sam Francis has a new title. Instead of being the analytics chief, Francis is the team’s Director of Football Research.

Finally, Lindsay Langford is the team’s sports dietitian. Ben Baby touched on the Bengals last place finish in nutrition/diet which caused the players to advocate for Langford to be full-time.

The Coaching Carousel

Potts joined the Bengals organization in 2015 as a personnel executive. He played quarterback prior to joining the front office as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. In just three years he transitioned to the scouting director (college) before his newest promotion.

Radicevic has been with the Bengals ever since he started in the NFL. After spending 2005-12 with UCLA, he made the move up to the NFL as a scout for Cincinnati. He then shared time with Potts as a personnel executive. After that, he became the team’s director of scouting (pro), different from Potts’ role with college.

Brown is entering his 16th year in pro football. His rise through the Bengals system is astonishing as this is just his fifth year with the team. He was a scout in 2021 before becoming a senior personnel executive. The UCLA graduate has experience with three other NFL teams, along with the AAF and XFL.

Johnson became a scouting assistant after one year as a scouting intern for the team. In just three seasons, he worked his way up from intern to assistant to scout, as he reached his newest promotion.

Ramsey has scouted in the NFL for 16 years, but this will be his first stint with the Bengals. He spent 2009-21 with the Seattle Seahawks and then three seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

Hinch is another new name to Cincinnati’s organization. The former South Carolina running back has worked in college football, NFL, AAF, and XFL.

Labounty earned a promotion during his second season in the NFL. Last year, he was the Buffalo Bills as a football analytics intern.
