Legendary New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s largely disastrous first season in college football appeared, finally, to be turning around recently when his North Carolina Tar Heels won two straight games over ACC opponents Syracuse and Stanford in Weeks 8 and 9 of the season. But a loss to Wake Forest brought Belichick back to reality last week â and things only got worse for the 73-year-old coach from there, at least according to a new report published Saturday night.
The report by the New York Post came on the eve of North Carolina’s annual state rivalry game against the Duke Blue Devils.
The game is a huge one not only on the North Carolina campus, as it always is, but for Belichick himself. The six-time Super Bowl-winning coachâs father was an assistant coach at UNC decades ago, and Belichick has claimed that due to his dad’s influence, his first words as a child were “Beat Duke.”
Conflict Centers on Jordon Hudson: Report
But his first chance at fulfilling that lifelong mission took a detour Saturday when the Post published its report about a fiery family feud that played out in Belichick’s office at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill on Nov. 8, as the Tar Heels celebrated a 20-15 win over the Stanford Cardinal.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the conflict centered around Belichick’s polarizing girlfriend Jordon Hudson, who at 24-year-old is 49 years younger than the future Hall of Fame coach, according to Post reporter Edward Lewis.
According to Lewis’s reporting, Jennifer (Schmitt) Belichick, wife of the coach’s son Steve Belichick who serves as Tar Heels defensive coordinator, “unleashed a nearly hour-long profanity-laced tirade on Jordon Hudson.”
Chilly Relations Between Hudson, Jen Belichick
The lengthy rant by Belichick’s 35-year-old daughter-in-law “included digs at Hudsonâs fashion choices, her body, and her relationship with Bill, all as the UNC head coach stood just feet away,” Lewis reported.
Jennifer Belichick has long been seen as having a chilly, perhaps even hostile relationship with Hudson. The mother to three of Bill Belichick’s grandchildren has made snarky social media comments about Hudson, and appeared to give the former cheerleader â whose mother reportedly operates a sex-toy boutique in Provincetown, Massachusetts â the cold shoulder when both attended the UNC game against Stanford.
“Jen was furious with Hudson⦠over an interaction the two had earlier in the day,” Lewis reported.
Daughter-in-Law Calls GF ‘Crazy,’ Report Says
In her coach’s office tirade as Bill Belichick “stood just feet away,” per the Post report, the Belichick spouse “screamed all Jordon ‘does is control s***’ â before she called Billâs significant other ‘bats*** crazy.’ At one point, sources said Jen told the room â which included Jenâs husband, UNC defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, Bill, Hudson and multiple others â that she didnât care if her eruption resulted in Steveâs termination or Bill disowning her.”
She also issued what Lewis described as an “ultimatum” to the elder Belichick, warning, âYou choose your family or you choose (Hudson),” the Post reporter wrote.
The exact nature of the “interaction” between Jennifer Belichick and her father-in-law’s youthful significant other that allegedly provoked the bizarre incident was not specified in the Post report.
“The Post reached out to Jen on Friday about the situation, but she declined to comment. Hudson did not respond to The Postâs request for a statement,” Lewis reported.
