Bills Add Four More Names To Growing Injury List At Sunday’s Practice, Full Injury Update

The Buffalo Bills had a rough day Sunday morning, as four more players went down with injuries. Of the four, the biggest non-participants were linebacker Terrel Bernard and wide receiver Curtis Samuel.

Additionally, wide receiver Tyrell Shavers was carted off the field, while a second wideout, rookie Kaden Prather, also had his day ended early.

This now makes nine Bills injured in training camp. Laviska Shenault, Dorian Williams, Dawson Knox, and Sedrick van Pran-Granger have all been seen lurking around the practice field. While 27-year-old starting tackle Spencer Brown still has not taken the field.

Injury Update On Three Injured Receivers

All three receivers who went down this weekend are fighting for a roster spot.

Whether Curtis Samuel likes it or not, he is a bubble player entering his ninth NFL season after posting just 253 yards last season with the Bills. Last year, a summer injury hindered his production, so local reporter Sal Maiorana fears the worst following the soon to be 29-year-old’s hamstring injury.

“Samuel is another player who really can’t afford to miss time,” Maiorana recalls. “Yes, he’s a veteran, but he also got hurt last year in training camp and missed a bunch of time, and he never really found his groove after that and endured a disappointing first season. Samuel is battling free agent signings Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore for reps, not to mention Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman.”

As far as Tyrell Shavers is concerned, it doesn’t look good. He was carted to the locker room where he was unable to put any weight on his right leg. As someone who was already on an uphill trajectory, this felt like capital punishment for his roster aspirations.

Finally, rookie Kaden Prather also jacked up his hamstring. Prather is not only fighting for a roster spot as a rookie, but fighting for his career in the NFL. At six-foot-three the rangy wideout ran a 4.46 forty yard dash at the NFL combine. He too has a lot of work to do to earn a jersey, and this set back could hurt.

“At some point in the first half of practice, the seventh-round rookie hurt what looks like a hamstring based on the wrap he was wearing on the leg. Prather is a longshot to make the team, but he will have a chance to stick with the practice squad, so any time missed is problematic,” Maiorana continued.

Much Needed Good News, AJ Epenesa Returns To Play

According to Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News, AJ Epenesa has returned to the practice field after leaving Thursday’s action early with an ankle injury.

Epenesa sat out of Friday’s action but was a full participant on Sunday.

AJ Epenesa is entering yet another contract year. After 6.5 sacks in each of the final two years of his rookie contract, the linebacker earned a two-year, $12 million extension. In year one of his new contract it was more of the same, as he posted an incredibly consistent six more sacks while recording a career high 39 tackles.

The 26-year-old looks to prove his worth in a retooled pass rush on a contract year.
