Bills Cut Ties With Veteran DT Just 4 Days After Signing Him

Kameron Cline’s barely had time to settle into a dorm room at St. John Fisher University before his third stint with the Buffalo Bills came to an end.

The Bills announced late last week that they signed the veteran defensive tackle, who has been with the team for parts of the two previous seasons. But Cline was cut loose just days later as the team began to whittle down its final roster, taking away some depth from the defensive line at training camp.

Bills Keep Kameron Cline for Less Than a Week

The team had announced on July 31 that they signed Cline, who was on the practice squad and appeared in one game for the Bills in the 2024 season.

Cline appeared to have an advantage in seeking a spot on the final roster as he had been with the team in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The Bills also have an opening on the defensive line to start the season after two major offseason additions — Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht — must serve six-game suspensions to start the season for violating the league’s rules against performance-enhancing drugs.

Cline had filled a roster spot vacated when the team waived undrafted rookie Hayden Harris, who had gotten into a scuffle with lineman Alec Anderson at practice. It’s not clear if the fight played a role in his release, with Bills head coach Sean McDermott pointing the finger at Anderson for the incident and kicking him out of practice for the rest of the day.

“When you cheap-shot someone, I have no respect for that. And so, I thought that was a cheap-shot, and so I sent him to the locker room, and I communicated clearly to him from a following up standpoint of why I did that,” McDermott said, via SI.com.

Cline could still return if the Bills are hit with injuries, as the team has a penchant for bringing back players who spent time on their practice squad or active roster.

Bills Add Youth at Defensive Line

The Bills already have some new faces on their defensive line, using three of their first four draft picks on the position. The team traded up to the No. 41 overall pick to land defensive lineman T.J. Sanders, who said he has been learning from Ed Oliver and the other veterans at the position.

“Honestly, the guys I’m surrounded by. Ed, Greg [Rousseau], Joey [Bosa], all the whole room, d-tackles, d-ends are just guys that I’ve seen growing up, and getting a chance to play beside them, I’m really excited about that,” Sanders said.

The rookie lineman added that training camp has been a big learning experience, but he believes he’s up to the task.

“As far as the mental side, I feel like every day is growing. We are putting in new things every day, you know, just trying to get adjusted,” Sanders said. “And I feel like I’ve been doing a pretty good job of that, and physically, just the same thing, every day, just taking it one step at a time, trying to get to where it slows down for me.”
