Bills DT Ed Oliver Reveals How His Injury Happened Amid Horse Rumors

The Buffalo Bills are undefeated heading into Week 5, and they have managed to take down each of their first four opponents despite not being fully healthy to begin the season. One guy who has been forced to miss time in the early going is star defensive tackle Ed Oliver, and he recently took a second to debunk a popular conspiracy theory regarding his lingering ankle injury.

Oliver has only suited up in the Bills‘ season-opener against the Baltimore Ravens before he came down with his aforementioned ankle injury. While it was revealed that Oliver was stepped on during one of the team’s practices, rumors emerged that he was involved in a horse accident that led to his injury.

Ed Oliver Shoots Down Wild Injury Conspiracy Theory

Oliver was a madman in the Bills’ season debut, racking up six tackles, three of which went for a loss, one sack, and one fumble forced to help his team pull off a late rally against the Ravens. He hasn’t played since then, though, as a mysterious ankle injury has led to him missing the team’s past three games.

Over the summer, Buffalo was featured on the latest season of “Hard Knocks,” with one of the segments showing off Oliver’s love for riding horses. Oliver went as far as to say that he preferred riding around on a horse to get from place to place, and it was revealed that he owns 30 horses, some of which he rides around Western New York during his downtime.

With that in mind, a wild conspiracy theory was born. While the recurring message was that Oliver was stepped on during one of the team’s practices, rumors began to swirl suggesting that his ankle injury arose as a result of an accident involving one of his horses. This theory made it all the way back to Oliver, who promptly shut it down on Wednesday.

“I got stepped on in practice. Is that what you heard?” Oliver said when asked about his injury on Wednesday. “I heard I fell off a horse, a horse hurt me, all kinds of stuff. But I can promise you somebody stepped on me at practice.”

Ed Oliver Trending Towards Returning to Action in Week 5

GettyBills’ star Ed Oliver disputed the notion that he suffered his ankle injury in a horse accident

Oliver has largely remained out of the public eye since suffering this injury, but he was back at practice on Wednesday for the first time since he picked up this ailment. While Oliver still has some hurdles to clear before he can return to the field, it seems like he has a shot at playing in his first game since Week 1.

Buffalo has gotten by without Oliver to this point, but they would obviously rather have him on the field than on the sidelines. The Bills have a Sunday Night Football matchup with the New England Patriots on their schedule in Week 5, and considering how the Pats just dropped 42 points on the Carolina Panthers in Week 4, they could use all hands on deck for this game. Kickoff for this important divisional clash is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday.
