The Buffalo Bills brought a familiar face back into the fold ahead of the 2025 NFL draft, signing cornerback Tre’Davious White.
White, the Bills’ first-round pick from the 2017 NFL draft, initially signed a four-year $69 million extension in 2020 and was under contract through 2025. However, an ACL tear prematurely ended White’s 2022 NFL season before he tore his Achilles in Week 4 of the 2023 season.
After missing 30 games over the three seasons, the Bills made the difficult decision to release White ahead of the 2024 NFL season. He went on to sign a one-year, $4.25 million deal with the Los Angeles Rams but got traded to the Baltimore Ravens midway through the season.
He appeared in seven games with the Ravens, recording 10 total tackles and three passes defensed. White added one solo tackle in two playoff appearances. After lingering in free agency this offseason, he signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Buffalo that includes an additional $3 million in incentives.
The 30-year-old was considered to be a veteran depth piece, especially after the Bills used their 2025 first-round pick on cornerback Maxwell Hairston. However, Hairston’s status remains questionable after suffering a non-contact knee injury last month, thrusting White into the starting role opposite Christian Benford.
Both Benford and White left practice early on Thursday, August 21. However, Benford told reporters he was “okay,” and that he “just needed some rest.” However, White’s exit brought some concerning news for the Bills.

WGR 550’s Sal Capaccio reported, “After an 11-on-11 play, White, who was not near the ball, started hopping on one leg.
“He slowly walked off the field, up the stadium tunnel, and into the game day locker room. Several minutes later, he reappeared, walking back down the tunnel towards the field, eventually sitting in the front seat of a cart. He was then driven out of the stadium.”
The Bills did not provide an update on White’s status after practice. The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia, however, suggested the use of a medical cart might not be as dire as it seems.
“It is a *very long* walk back to the fieldhouse locker room from the stadium, and up quite an incline of the ramp in the tunnel,” Buscaglia posted on X. “We’ll know more soon, but that could be the reason for the cart.

Considering what White has been thought over the past several years, all of Bills Mafia is hoping he’s okay. White was thrilled to return to Buffalo.
“I just felt in place. I felt home. For that I’m forever grateful, and I’m so thankful to be back,” he told reporters in April. “I told my agent, man, if you can’t get Buffalo on the line, just don’t call. This is the place that I want to be.
Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich spoke highly of the All-Pro on Wednesday, August 20. “There is flashes of that Tre White in there still that we know,” Babich told reporters.
“So there’s a couple things that we got to make sure that he ties the bow on. But again, we just want to continue to see him grow here back in the system.”
