Bills Get Update on Josh Allen’s Injury After Postgame X-Rays

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen nearly hobbled his way to a come-from-behind win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and was left banged up in the loss.

Allen was visibly hurt in the second half of the 13-12 loss, limping at times as he took hard hits from the aggressive Eagles defense. After Buffalo’s last-second comeback came up short on a missed two-point conversion, Allen was sent to the locker room for X-rays.

Bills Check Out Josh Allen’s Injury

As ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg shared after the game, Allen continued to show discomfort after the game.

“Bills QB Josh Allen just limped into the X-ray room with head athletic trainer Nate Breske,” Getzenberg wrote in a post on X.

Allen had been hurt the previous week, suffering a foot injury in the closing minutes of the first half of the team’s win over the Cleveland Browns. He left to get X-rays during halftime and returned to lead to the Bills to a win, but was limited in practice during the week.

It appears that Allen avoided a significant injury again on Sunday, with reporter Matt Bove noting on X that he was not hurt.

“Josh Allen just came out of the x-ray room after being evaluated for a few minutes,” Bove wrote. “He walked out WITHOUT any protection on his foot and was just wearing socks. He told us after the game (before he was looked at) he was fine and his foot injury didn’t impact him.”

Allen has played hurt through much of the past few seasons, including a broken bone in his non-throwing hand suffered in the 2024 season opener. The Bills quarterback also had a shoulder injury in 2023 that forced him to alter his throwing motion, which needed to be corrected that offseason.

Bills Can Give Josh Allen Rest in Season Finale

Sunday’s loss ended Buffalo’s hope of winning the AFC East for the sixth straight year, allowing the New England Patriots to clinch their first title since the departure of Tom Brady after the 2019 season.

The Bills will now head into their season finale against the New York Jets with the chance to give Allen some rest. The team only has playoff seeding on the line, with the Bills able to finish anywhere from the No. 5 to the No. 7 seed.

That means the Bills will need to go on the road to start the playoffs and will likely not return to Orchard Park after Sunday’s season finale — making it the last game at Highmark Stadium before the Bills move to their new stadium next year.

The Bills could have more motivation to rest Allen, who already snatched a personal record in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles, NFL.com’s Grant Gordon noted.

“With his 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles, Allen became the youngest and fastest player in league history to reach 300 career offensive touchdowns,” Gordon wrote. “He scored his 301st touchdown on a QB sneak with five seconds remaining to bring the score to 13-12, but Buffalo fell to Philly after failing to convert on the subsequent two-point conversion.”
