Bills Legend Jim Kelly Asks for Fans for Prayers Amid Family Health Crisis

Jim Kelly is asking Buffalo Bills fans for their prayers for his family again.

The Hall of Fame Bills quarterback shared another family crisis, this time involving his daughter Erin and her husband Parker’s newborn baby boy that is going through an unidentified medical issue.

Kelly famously guided the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls between 1990-93 and made five Pro Bowls over his 11 NFL seasons with the Bills. He went 101-59 in 160 starts for Buffalo.

Prior to his tenure in Buffalo, Kelly played two seasons for the USFL’s Houston Gamblers and amassed 9,842 passing yards and 83 touchdowns. Kelly’s 45,309 career passing yards, combined between the USFL and NFL, rank 19th in the history of United States professional football.

Why Is Jim Kelly Asking For Prayers?

Kelly has leaned on his faith amid a number of health emergencies over the past four decades and asked for prayers from Bills Mafia. His son Hunter died at age 8 of globoid-cell leukodystrophy, then Kelly himself went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy with his own bout with cancer.

But Kelly posted a release on Instagram sharing a press released issued by the Bills. He added his own context.

“We’ve felt your support and prayers through some of the darkest days of our lives — and we’ll never be able to thank you enough. Your kindness towards our family and your prayers have reminded us that we’re not alone,” Kelly shared. “Well, we need your prayers again. We never imagined we would be here in this place of heartbreak and suffering again. Please pray for our daughter Erin, her husband Parker, and their precious newborn baby boy.

“Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for praying. We need it more than ever.”

In Kelly’s post he also included two passages from the Bible, Isaiah 46:4 “I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you” and Isaiah 43:2, which states “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. These images convey Kelly’s ongoing faith.

“We don’t have all the words… but God knows, and we trust that He hears every cry, sees every tear, and holds every detail in His sovereign hands,” Kelly shared. “We’re clinging to the Word of God and the MIGHTY ALL-POWERFUL God of the Word!”

Who Commented On Jim Kelly’s Post?

Aside from Bills fans sharing their comments on Kelly’s post, some former Buffalo players and Kelly’s ex-teammates also voiced their support on social media.

“❤️🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾 My Family,” Kelly’s former teammate and Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas posted.

“God is always big enough! Prayers incoming🙏,” former Bills and current Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Harrison Phillips commented.

According to the Bills’ press release, Kelly has already heard from many Bills fans and is appreciative of the ongoing well wishes and prayers.

“Jim respectfully asks for continued understanding and privacy as they focus on their family’s well being,” the Bills release said. “The family extends thanks for the outpouring of love, prayers and encouragement they have already received. The promise to share more when the time is right.”
