Bills Make Move to Keep Fan Favorite Linebacker After Release

The Buffalo Bills are enjoying some time off during their bye week in Week 7, and considering how their last two games have gone, it’s safe to say that this could not have come at a better time for the team. While the players aren’t working much, the front office is still tweaking the roster, even though there is no game for the team to play this week.

Earlier this month, the Bills signed popular linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo from the practice squad to the active roster in an effort to shore up their defense. However, his tenure with the team briefly came to an end earlier this week, but it didn’t take long for Ciarlo to find his way back to Buffalo, as the team made another move involving him on Thursday.

Bills Re-Sign Jimmy Ciarlo to Practice Squad

After racing out to a 4-0 start, the Bills looked like the best team in the NFL. Several holes have been poked in that argument, though, as the team suffered a pair of losses to the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons in consecutive weeks to stumble into their bye week with a 4-2 record. That may not seem bad, but when you consider the fact that the Patriots are now the No. 1 seed in the AFC East, it’s clear Buffalo isn’t where it wants to be currently.

The good news is that there’s still a lot of football left to be played, which means there’s an opportunity for players to step up and make an impact on the team. For a brief period of time, Ciarlo was that guy who found a way to carve out a role for himself with the Bills. After starting the year on the team’s practice squad, he ended up getting signed to the active roster before the team’s contest against the Patriots.

Ciarlo made his NFL debut against New England before being inactive for the team’s loss to Atlanta. His quick stint on the active roster came to an end on Tuesday, as the Bills released him from their active roster. Ciarlo isn’t going far, though, because he quickly re-signed to Buffalo’s practice squad on Thursday.

“Signed LB Jimmy Ciarlo to the practice squad,” the team announced on the transactions page of its official website.

Bills Shift Attention to Upcoming Week 8 Action

If everybody on Buffalo’s roster is healthy, Ciarlo probably won’t have much of a role with the team moving forward. But with Matt Milano continuing to struggle to stay healthy, that has opened the door for Ciarlo to keep on grinding behind the scenes in an effort to ensure that if his number does get called, he’s ready to answer the bell.

With Ciarlo back in town, the Bills will tune in and watch how Week 7 unfolds across the NFL before turning their attention to Week 8. When the team does return to action, it will have a favorable matchup against the Carolina Panthers on its schedule, which should be a perfect opportunity to get back in the win column. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 26.
