Bills Miss Out on Veteran Addition Who Could’ve Shored Up Defense

The NFL trade deadline has finally arrived, and the Buffalo Bills are eyeing potential moves to strengthen their roster for a playoff push. Fresh off a significant 28-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, the Bills currently find themselves in second place in the AFC East, trailing the New England Patriots by a narrow margin.

Bills Miss Out on Logan Wilson

While Buffalo has various areas it could look to improve, it missed a chance to make a trade on Tuesday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Todd Archer, the Cincinnati Bengals are set to send linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys as part of their deal.

Wilson was a potential trade fit for the Bills, and Schefter reported on Saturday that Buffalo was eyeing the linebacker.

“Another Cincinnati defensive standout whose name has come up as the deadline approaches is linebacker Logan Wilson, who requested to be traded less than two weeks ago,” Schefter wrote. “Teams that have expressed some interest in Wilson are the Bills, Cowboys and Colts, sources told ESPN. Wilson also is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Bears because of a calf injury.”

Wilson is now in his sixth season in the NFL and played a crucial role in the Bengals‘ impressive turnaround in 2021. He was drafted the same year as quarterback Joe Burrow, and after their rookie seasons, the future didn’t seem very bright in Cincinnati. However, the following year, the team turned things around and made a remarkable run to the Super Bowl.

However, the Bengals defense is now one of the worst units in the NFL, allowing 33.3 points a game, which is the most by any team in the league.

Wilson will get a fresh start playing for the Cowboys, but it’s not like their defense is any better. Dallas is allowing the second-most points in the league, 30.8 a game.

Now that Wilson is off the market, the Bills will need to look elsewhere to upgrade their roster.

Buffalo Could Look to Add Different Bengals Player

There’s a chance that another defensive player from the Bengals might be on the trading block, and that player is Trey Hendrickson. The 30-year-old pass rusher has been in trade talks going back to the summer when he was holding out for a new contract. The Bengals were able to rework his deal and give him a $14 million raise for the season, but he will be a free agent at the end of the season.

If the Bills want to trade for a possible rental, Hendrickson would be a good fit, and reporters asked the star pass rusher what his expectations are with the trade deadline approaching.

“I don’t expect anything anymore, so, again, be where your feet are,” Hendrickson said. “I’m incredibly blessed,” Hendrickson said on Monday, via Cincinnati Enquirer’s Pat Brennan. “I don’t go with ‘if’s’ and ‘buts.’ You know, I don’t think that’s something that’s reality. I think I’m excited for going home and playing with my son. That’s something I look forward to.”

It will be interesting to see what the Bills do at the trade deadline and if they add anyone to their roster.
