The Buffalo Bills are looking to reach their first Super Bowl since the 1990s this season and could be upgrading a few positions on their team heading down the stretch.
The NFL trade deadline already passed on Nov. 4, but the Bills could add to their roster through free agency, and one big-time player became available on Tuesday.
Bills Named Fit For Odell Beckham Jr.
Veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. hasn’t seen the field all season. Still, the NFL has welcomed him back after he completed a six-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
Bleacher Report’s Julia Stumbaugh named possible places Beckham could end up, and has the Bills on the list.
“Beckham could now head to Buffalo to potentially provide more options for Josh Allen after Amari Cooper’s free agency departure and subsequent retirement,” wrote on Tuesday.
“Given that tight end Dalton Kincaid is dealing with a hamstring injury after also missing time to injury last season, adding Beckham would give Buffalo some insurance should Allen lose any more of his top targets down the stretch.”
The Bills should consider bringing in Beckham, but the last time he was on the field, it was far from impressive. In 2024, Beckham played nine games with the Miami Dolphins, managing just nine receptions for a total of 55 yards and a score.
Beckham was once considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL after being selected in the first round by the New York Giants in 2014. He made a notable impact by earning Pro Bowl honors in his first three seasons. However, he hasn’t been named to the Pro Bowl since then.
The Bills could call Beckham if they are looking for wide receiver help, and right now, Buffalo could use all the help it can get at the position after what happened last week.
Buffalo is Dealing With WR Issues
Before the Bills’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, second-round wide receiver Keon Coleman was a healthy scratch for being late to a team meeting on Friday. Head coach Sean McDermott addressed his decision to bench Coleman after the game on Sunday.
“That was my decision,” McDermott said, via video from Alex Brasky of SBnation. “It is disappointing, but I still believe in the young man. We get to a certain point, and I’ve got to do something. I try and give the guys a kind of a strike approach. ‘Hey, you get a chance to show your teammates that’s not really who you are.’ When it happens again, then I step in. I believe he will learn from it. He takes it seriously. He will move forward in a way of growing from this, and that’s the whole goal.”
If Coleman ends up being a distraction, the Bills will likely need to bolster their receiver lineup. This possibility might prompt Buffalo to consider bringing in Beckham. It could be beneficial to have Beckham visit and assess whether he still has anything left to offer, which might make signing him to the practice squad worthwhile.
