Bills QB Josh Allen Sums Up Patriots Disaster in 1 Word

The Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots game on Sunday, October 5, was a game that pretty much nobody expected to see. Of course, the Bills were undefeated going into the game, and they were also favorites to win, by a longshot. But, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and the team beat the best, the Bills, and it really shook the NFL world.

It’s worth noting that the Bills’ loss also came with the other undefeated team in the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles, having a surprise loss over the weekend. The Eagles fell to the Denver Broncos, 21-17, at home. So, now, there are zero undefeated teams in the NFL for the 2025-26 season.

Going back to the Bills, the loss was really surprising, and it shows that the Patriots are coming up in the ranks. It’s not easy to take down MVP-winning quarterback Josh Allen, but Maye and the Patriots have to get props for a job well done, even if it pains the Bills to say that. After the game, Allen was not happy about the win, and he used one word to sum up the loss.

Josh Allen Talks About the Buffalo Bills Loss to the New England Patriots

After the game, Allen spoke with reporters about the game and what went wrong. He didn’t mince words about what happened on the field, and he didn’t make excuses, either.

The one word that he used to sum up the loss was “sloppy.” So, it’s something that he and the Bills will make sure doesn’t happen again.

In full context, he said, “We just played sloppy. Not going to win a football game turning the ball over three times in our red zone. Gave them one in their red zone. That’s just bad football, and we just did not play good tonight.”

Up until Sunday, Buffalo had 25 consecutive games with turnovers equal to or fewer than their opponents. But, Allen addressed the turnover in this game, noting, “We shouldn’t even have been in the game with three turnovers.”

“You cannot turn the ball over three times and expect to win,” head coach Sean McDermott added.

Josh Allen Says the Patriots ‘Took Care of the Ball’

Allen added of the Patriots, “They came in, they knew what they had to do, they took care of the football. We didn’t. If you look at it from the paper point of view, I mean, a pretty pivotal game in terms of what we could have done with this. and we didn’t take advantage of our opportunity.”

Also, according to ESPN Research, per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, the Buffalo Bills‘ either accepted penalties are tied for their second most in the first half of a game under Sean McDermott.

So, how will Allen and the Bills learn from this experience? “We’ll watch the film and we’ll be better,” Allen told the press.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel has respect for Allen, and he talked about that before the game. “Well, I mean, I think he realized that he’s got immense talent, and I think he’s done a much better job of taking care of the football,” Vrabel said.

Next up, the Bills will take on the Falcons on Monday, October 13, for Monday Night Football.
