Blue Jays Ace Predicted to Sign New $75 Million Deal

The Toronto Blue Jays lost Game 7 of the World Series in heart-wrenching fashion. Despite owning a 4-3 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers, the reigning champions were able to mount a comeback, resulting in a 5-4 victory. With the help of a Will Smith home run and a double play to end the Blue Jays’ comeback, the Dodgers walked away as back-to-back World Series winners.

A few starting pitchers from Toronto’s rotation found themselves inserted into the winner-take-all game. Trey Yesavage came into the game late and pitched 1 2/3 innings. He allowed one home run and walked another batter, but earned a hold for his efforts.

Things didn’t go as well for Shane Bieber. Bieber was on the mound when Smith hit his game-winning home run for the Dodgers. One website has predicted that the starting ace will test free agency.

Shane Bieber Predicted to Move on From the Toronto Blue Jays

Spotrac is one of the best websites for tracking contract information across various sports.

Back in May, the website published an article breaking down the 2026 free agent class. In the article, they looked at every player in the MLB with a player option to assess the future of those players.

One player they looked at was Bieber.

“Bieber was positioned to cash in last offseason, but his short-term value tanked following Tommy John surgery in April,” Spotrac wrote in May. “He rejoined the Guardians on a discounted 2-year, $26M guarantee with a Player option that will surely get declined if Bieber can return for a healthy second half. Cleveland proved to be a lucrative rehab destination for Matt Boyd in 2024 and could provide the same for Bieber in 2025.”

One analyst believes that Bieber’s time in Toronto may be coming to an end. That is due to other teams looking to add the pitcher to their rotation.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic believes that the potential to earn more money than his $16 million player option will entice him to go elsewhere.

Bieber finished the 2025 regular season with 37 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings across seven games pitched. He started four games in the postseason, throwing 18 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings.

Other Options For Shane Bieber

Bowden predicts that Bieber will sign a more lucrative offer with another team instead of staying with the Blue Jays. The analyst has him pegged for a three-year, $75 million deal.

A two-year, $46 million deal and a three-year, $66.38 million deal are other comparables that Bowden writes are possibilities.

Outside of the Blue Jays, Bowden lists six potential suitors. Bowden cites the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Houston Astros, and Cleveland Guardians as possible fits.

Bowden explains his reason for believing that Bieber will look outside of Toronto for his next deal.

“That said, most pitchers coming back from Tommy John are much better a second year removed from the surgery,” Bowden wrote. “He’ll probably have to accept another shorter-term deal with an opt-out clause that allows him to get back into free agency next offseason.”

Whatever the future holds for Bieber, he’ll want to be in a starting rotation somewhere.
