The Toronto Blue Jays have gotten busy already in the MLB offseason. Despite losing Game 7 of the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto hasn’t let that keep them down. They have already brought back Shane Bieber, fortified the rotation with the additions of Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce, and are in the mix for both Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette. Toronto has made a few minor moves, too. They have signed a few depth and prospect types, while whittling down their 40-man roster.
The Blue Jays have also been active on the closer market. They were at least interested in Raisel Iglesias, Emilio Pagan, and Ryan Helsley before they all signed. Edwin Diaz and Robert Suarez are “possibilities” still, with one insider predicting that Toronto will walk away from free agency with at least one of those arms replacing Jeff Hoffman as their closer.
However, a new development is pouring cold water on the possibility of the Blue Jays landing two big free agency bats.
Bo Bichette ‘Impressed’ by Rival Organization
Ari Alexander, a sports anchor for 7 News, has a new report that may signal the end of Bichette’s tenure with the Blue Jays. This new report virtually signals that the young infielder is strongly considering joining the Boston Red Sox.
“SS Bo Bichette and the #RedSox had a Zoom recently, sources tell 7News,” Alexander revealed in a social media post on X on December 8th. “It went well on both sides, per sources. Bichette came away impressed with the Red Sox, I’m told. The Red Sox have shown to be serious about the free agent.”
Bichette being linked to the Red Sox should not be surprising, at this point. MLB insiders Bob Nightengale, Ken Rosenthal, and Will Sammon have all reported the Red Sox’s interest in Bichette. One has reported that the Blue Jays’ signing Tucker would slam the book on a Bichette return. The others have reported that the Red Sox see Bichette as a potential new second baseman.
Toronto Blue Jays Still Favorites to Land Kyle Tucker
The Blue Jays have the leg up on at least one rival organization when it comes to Tucker. A new report indicates that the New York Yankees aren’t the favorites to land the big fish in this year’s free agency class.
Bryan Hoch of MLB.com has revealed some interesting information in this regard.
“Kyle Tucker has not visited the Yankees’ complex, Brian Cashman said,” Hoch wrote on X on December 7th, 2025. “Tucker, who lives near Tampa, recently saw the Blue Jays’ facility in Dunedin.”
Tucker would be an excellent replacement for Bichette from a batting perspective. In 2025, he hit 22 home runs and 73 RBIs. Additionally, he recorded 133 hits and 23 stolen bases, along with a .266 batting average.
Who Will Replace Bo Bichette?
Because Tucker is an outfielder, the Blue Jays would still need to add a body to fill in at shortstop or second base.
Two trade targets that have surfaced recently are CJ Abrams and Ketel Marte. The Washington Nationals are exploring a deal for Abrams. Marte is available, and the Red Sox have been in conversations with the Arizona Diamondbacks regarding a trade.
If Bichette truly leaves the organization, his absence leaves a big hole. Fortunately for the Blue Jays, there are options available to them to ease their loss.
It will be an intriguing few days as the dominoes start to fall across the league.
