Blue Jays ‘Exciting’ Bat is Good News Amidst New Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker Rumblings

The Toronto Blue Jays aren’t going to slow down any time soon this MLB offseason. They are ready to move on from the World Series by punching their ticket to the next one. While they have made big pitching moves, securing a big bat remains unfinished. They have added a few international free agents to their stable of impressive position-player prospects, such as Jojo Parker and Juan Sanchez. One bat has good power potential, while another is becoming a clutch hitter.

But which big bat will they land? The biggest targets available to them are Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker, and Alex Bregman. Some speculate that Bregman’s future is already predetermined. However, until one of them signs with a team, pundits and fans can only guess as to what happens next.

Yet, the Blue Jays can remain optimistic. Especially considering that they have options in their farm system that can soften the loss of a Bichette-type, should they strikeout on bringing him back.

Toronto Blue Jays Prospect Juan Sanchez Predicted to Breakout This Year – Which is Good News

Despite signing numerous international free agents in December, the prospects they already possess could have a significant impact.

Prospect experts at MLB.com have compiled a list of prospects to keep an eye on for every club. For the Blue Jays, Sanchez is the slugger fans should note, with some “exciting” developments.

“Signed for $997,500 in January, Sanchez has arguably already broken out with a .341/.439/.565 line and eight homers in 56 games last summer in the Dominican Summer League,” Jesse Borek, Sam Dykstra, and Ben Weinrib wrote on January 1, 2026. “His right-handed power already plays out of his 6-foot-3 frame, and there could be more coming as he continues to fill out. Toronto officials who saw him in the D.R. came away believing Sanchez can be the real deal due to his exciting exit velocities.”

“Carrying that slugging output stateside over a larger sample will send him shooting up the Toronto rankings.”

Sanchez is currently ranked 18th on the Blue Jays prospect depth chart. In 2025, he recorded eight home runs, 40 RBIs, four triples, and 73 hits in 56 games.

Having a prospect with “exciting” exit velocities is a positive for the club. From a team perspective, it doesn’t hurt to have more power in the lineup.

What Do the Blue Jays Have in Juan Sanchez?

Sanchez has a favorable profile for a big-league hitter. According to his prospect profile, his power could improve as he fills out his 6-foot-3 frame.

“Sanchez doesn’t have a noisy load in his swing, leaving his strength to do the talking while he doesn’t overcomplicate matters,” writes the report. “There’s always the potential he could run into swing-and-miss problems against better velocity and pitching, but early returns are solid. Sanchez certainly has the arm for the left side of the infield, and he’s split his time between third base and shortstop down in the DR. His size might make him a better full-time fit at the hot corner down the road.”

“Sanchez has only built on an intriguing profile with solid performance as a professional.”

One way or another, this will be one prospect for Blue Jays fans to keep their eyes on this season.

The Latest on Bo Bichette, Alex Bregman, and Kyle Tucker

Things are looking bright for the future of Toronto’s big bats, but what about the present? There are several rumors out there that require parsing.

MLB insider Mark Feinsand’s recent report on the most significant remaining free agents is packed with nuggets for players of interest.

Kyle Tucker: The Big Apple Presents the Biggest Blue Jays’ Obstacle

Feinsand kicks off his report discussing Tucker.

According to the report, the biggest obstacles for the Blue Jays signing Tucker are the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets.

“Toronto remains the favorite to land Tucker, sources said,” Feinsand wrote on January 1, 2026. “Though the Mets can’t be counted out, given their need for outfield help and their general willingness to spend big when they feel it’s appropriate. If the Yankees are prepared to spend big, it’s likely going to be for Cody Bellinger rather than Tucker.”

“The Dodgers are also lurking as a possibility for Tucker, who would make the two-time defending World Series champions even more dangerous.”

Having big spenders like the Mets and Dodgers as your main competition for a free agent doesn’t paint a nice picture. However, with the Blue Jays being the current favorites, fans can remain optimistic about their club’s chances of signing him.

Bo Bichette & Alex Bregman: Futures Closely Connected?

Feinsand continues by discussing the futures of Bregman and Bichette. What he says should raise fans’ eyebrows.

“The Blue Jays, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Red Sox, and Tigers have been connected to him throughout the offseason,” Feinsand reveals. “Sources believe the Blue Jays and Diamondbacks may be the two most aggressive clubs in the hunt for Bregman, though a Red Sox reunion remains a possibility.”

The Arizona Diamondbacks are an interesting player in all of this. They recently put pressure on future trade partners by setting a soft deadline for trading Ketel Marte. If they trade Marte, they become bigger players in the Bregman market. If they keep him, they (seemingly) take themselves out of the sweepstakes.

But then, there is the Boston Red Sox. They are the biggest threat to the Blue Jays’ infield plans. Feinsand lays out why that’s the case.

“The Red Sox, who have Trevor Story at shortstop, are believed to be interested in Bichette,” Feinsand continues. “Though it may come down to whether Boston prefers him to Bregman. Marcelo Mayer can slot in at second or third, making either player a fit for the lineup. Bichette’s future may be tied directly to what happens with Bregman, as the Blue Jays and Red Sox are in on both players.”

“Toronto – the only club that won’t have to give up Draft picks to sign Bichette – could bring him back for second base, shifting Andrés Giménez to shortstop.”

So there you have it—the future of Bichette is tied to Bregman. Unfortunately, much of that depends on what the Red Sox decide to do. Will they go the trade route and acquire Marte or even Brendan Donovan? Or do they solidify their infield by pushing their chips in on Bregman and Bichette?

These are questions that should be answered sooner rather than later.

Other Options For the Blue Jays

Finally, Feinsand lays out a couple of other options for the Blue Jays (and Red Sox) to consider.

“There are other players available at those positions, such as a trade for Ketel Marte at second base or a free-agent deal with Eugenio Suárez at third,” Feinsand wrote. “Though Bichette and Bregman appear to be the top options at those spots for the AL East rivals.”

Eugenio Suarez is a name worth considering for the Blue Jays. If they strike out on Bregman and Bichette, picking up an aging infielder coming off a 49-homerun, 118-RBI season isn’t the worst consolation prize.

They might not end up with whomever they wanted to when the offseason started. However, with the possibility of signing Tucker, Bichette, and Bregman, and the potential of Parker and Sanchez, the future is bright for the Blue Jays.
