The Toronto Blue Jays have their sights set on another MLB World Series appearance. Despite having a busy offseason already with the additions of Dylan Cease, Tyler Rogers, and Cody Ponce, they have more work ahead of themselves. While their new pitchers will smooth over the losses of Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer, they need to address their offense. Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Yoan Moncada, Cody Bellinger, and Kazuma Okamoto are just a few of the names that have been linked to Toronto.
However, according to a new rumor, things may be trending in a positive direction for at least one of these free agents and Toronto. The Blue Jays also have other things to consider when it comes to their different targets.
RUMOR: Things Heating Up Between Bo Bichette & Toronto Blue Jays
According to the X account MLB Live, things may be heating up between the Blue Jays and Bichette. They published a post on X revealing how talks have picked up between the two camps in the past week.
“The Bichette market has gotten loud,” MLB Live wrote on December 29th, 2025. “Off today and just a few conversations this morning painted it like it’s buzzing, even feeling it might be the one to pop the bubble. Teams like the Blue Jays (who want a reunion) are interested in both bringing back Bo and bringing in Tucker. (They) have really turned their urgency into Bo, not away from Tucker.”
“Also, per source, the Jays have talked to Bo camp more at the end of last week than they have in the 3 weeks prior.”
Then, they explained why things have picked up in this regard and how it might affect Bregman.
“The Jays have a better understanding of where they will need to be and what it would look like for Tucker and Bo,” they continued. “If you’re Bregman, it might be beneficial for Bo to sign first.”
If things are truly picking up between the Blue Jays and Bichette, this is great news for Toronto. Bichette is a difficult player to replace, no matter who they could bring in. He has elite offense and was an important piece of the Blue Jays puzzle in 2025.
Other Free Agency & Trade Rumblings
MLB insider Robert Murray made a recent appearance on The Baseball Insiders podcast. In that episode, he spoke about a host of topics that should be of interest to Blue Jays fans.
When asked about the first domino to fall, Murray gave a prediction.
“I would think it’s maybe a Bellinger-type,” Murray said to the host on the December 29th episode. “To me, the clear and obvious fit for him in free agency is the Yankees, and do they pony up to keep him?”
“My guess is that I think that’s the best fit for him.”
With the New York Yankees being the likely candidate to sign Bellinger, that should take them out of the Bichette sweepstakes.
Alex Bregman Sweepstakes
Murray also spoke about the Arizona Diamondbacks and their interest level in Bregman.
“Are they interested in Bregman? Yeah, they absolutely are, it’s a legit thing,” Murray said. “That being said, it’s tied to Ketel Marte. In my eyes, the Diamondbacks cannot keep Marte and then also sign Bregman.”
This is significant to note, because of the other team involved in this equation: the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox have been scouring the trade market, looking at Marte, Brendan Donovan, as well as free agents Bichette and Bregman. If Boston acquires Marte, they take themselves out of the Bichette race.
Which would be another win for the Blue Jays.
Keegan Matheson on Yoan Moncada
Another MLB insider, Keegan Matheson, gave his thoughts on Moncada and the Blue Jays’ rumored interest in him.”
“He just hasn’t been at his best since his mid-20s,” Matheson said on the December 29th episode of Toronto Sports Rush. “Moncada is jacked. This is an all-powerful, massive athlete. I don’t know where that fits on the Blue Jays.”
“I feel this is something that belongs more down the line. Where, if you are the Blue Jays and you’re looking for that one extra bat just to cram in somewhere.”
With things heating up, it’s only a matter of time before something happens.
