Blue Jays Receive Positive Injury Updates on Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, and Shane Bieber

According to multiple reports, Trey Yesavage is beginning a rehab assignment on Friday. Yesavage, dealing with a shoulder injury sustained before the 2026 season began, will make a rehab start in Dunedin.

CBS Sports was on the news as it was reported: “It was reported previously that Yesavage would throw a simulated game, but he will make an official game appearance instead. The right-hander is slated to go three innings in what will be his first outing since last year’s World Series. Yesavage is coming back from a right shoulder impingement and will require multiple rehab starts before rejoining the Blue Jays’ rotation.”

Trey Yesavage Likely to Return to Blue Jays Rotation Before Jose Berrios and Shane Bieber

The Toronto Blue Jays currently have four starters on the Injured List (Jose Berrios, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and Cody Ponce). Cody Ponce got injured in his first start as a Blue Jay, and it’s a leg injury that’s expected to be more severe than the other three starters’ ailments.

Jose Berrios is dealing with a stress fracture, but he will face live hitters this weekend. He will also likely require a short rehab assignment. Shane Bieber will also begin throwing again after being shut down for a couple of weeks.

Is Blue Jays Rotation Something to be Worried About?

For what it’s worth, Blue Jays fans shouldn’t have been too worried about any of these injuries, and Toronto is off to a solid 4-2 start behind its current rotation members.

Assuming they all have smooth rehab assignments, the Blue Jays could have their star-studded rotation back to full health by early May.

The Cody Ponce injury might be a far more severe one. He has been diagnosed with an ACL sprain, and the Blue Jays are still awaiting whether surgery is needed. A best-case scenario would probably be Ponce missing a few months, but the injuries to Yesavage, Bieber and Berrios are far less severe.
