Blue Jays Still Did Rookie Hazing on Trey Yesavage After Historic World Series Outing

The Toronto Blue Jays did some rookie hazing on Trey Yesavage after his dominant outing in Game 5 of the World Series.

With the series tied 2-2, the Blue Jays turned to Yesavage, who was drafted a year ago and only made his MLB debut in mid-September. The rookie was dominant on Wednesday as he went seven scoreless innings while striking out 12 and allowing zero walks, en route to a big Blue Jays win.

Yesavage set the record for most strikeouts in a game by a rookie in World Series history. Despite his dominant performance, the Blue Jays still did some rookie hazing.

Blue Jays backup catcher Tyler Heineman shared a video of Yesavage getting beers and carrying them to the plane for the entire team.

It was a funny moment, as even though Yesavage just dominated the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ lineup, he still is a rookie and had to do some rookie hazing.

However, Yesavage likely was fine getting the beers after his dominant outing as the Blue Jays are now one win away from winning the World Series.

Blue Jays Manager ‘Blown Away’ by Yesavage

Following Toronto’s 6-1 Game 5 win over the Dodgers, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said he was ‘blown away’ by Yesavage’s performance.

Yesavage allowed just three hits in another dominant outing, which Schneider is still in disbelief about. The right-hander started the year in A-ball and played in nearly every minor league level.

“Thinking back to when we called him up, you’re kind of taking a shot to just bring more talent in, and you’re not really sure of how it’s going to unfold or what role he’s going to be in,” Schneider said postgame. “I said it before the game, man, but the regular season’s going to be pretty normal for him now. He’s definitely raised our ceiling. I mean, we’re talking about a guy that not only is he performing well, but he’s handling a lot of stuff well.”

Blue Jays star hitter, Bo Bichette, meanwhile, said it was ‘special’ to get a chance to watch Yesavage pitch.

“It’s special to watch. Obviously, the stuff is incredible,” said Bichette. “But the maturity to be able to handle these moments is unbelievable. So it was a special thing to watch today.”

Yesavage, meanwhile, was just grateful the Blue Jays trusted him enough to start a pivotal Game 5 of the World Series.

“I gave everything I had for this team, for this organization, and they did the same back,” Yesavage said. “I’m so grateful to be in this situation. I gave everything to the fans. I gave everything to Canada and all of the stops I made along the way. I’m so blessed to be in this position.”

Toronto 1 Win Away From World Series

After Yesavage’s dominant outing in Game 5 of the World Series, the Blue Jays are now one win away from the World Series.

The Blue Jays will turn to Kevin Gausman in Game 6, and Schneider is ecstatic he’s on the mound.

“It always feels good to give Kev the ball,” Schneider said. This was a big performance from a lot of different people individually and collectively as a team. This was a very, very good team win. But to give the ball to Kev, you love it. You love it every time, whether it’s in Spring Training or whether it’s in the World Series.”

Gausman, meanwhile, is excited to get the chance to bring the World Series back to Toronto and Canada.

“Rogers Centre is going to be fun. It’s going to be electric,” Gausman said. “It’s going to be everything that it has been for the last month and probably more. We’re excited to get back there. Obviously, we’re really good at home, so we feel confident playing in front of our own team. The fans there have been awesome, especially lately. They bring the energy, they pick us up when we need it.”

Game 6 is set for Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. ET.
