Blue Jays Trade Prediction Offloads Jose Berrios for White Sox’ $75 Million All-Star Outfielder

There have been all sorts of rumors surrounding the Toronto Blue Jays in the early going of the season. Jose Berrios, dealing with a stress fracture in his elbow, could return to the mound soon, as the Blue Jays desperately need a boost to their rotation with several starters sidelined.

However, would the Blue Jays consider making a blockbuster trade to acquire positional depth for Jose Berrios?

A recent trade pitch by Sports Illustrated’s Ethen Hutton features the Blue Jays making a trade with the Chicago White Sox to acquire $75 million outfielder Andrew Benintendi. Benintendi has quietly put up two consecutive solid offensive seasons and may be a trade subject throughout the season.

Blue Jays-White Sox Trade Idea Swaps Jose Berrios for Andrew Benintendi

Andrew Benintendi signed the largest contract in White Sox history before the 2023 season. The first season of the contract was rough from an offensive standpoint, but Benintendi has posted 20+ home runs in both 2024 and 2025.

Jose Berrios is tied to a seven-year, $131 deal that has just a couple of seasons remaining on it, but the contract’s end up being similar in terms of AAV, which makes this a pretty even trade idea financially.

However, due to the injuries in the Blue Jays’ rotation, they might be more hesitant now to move on from Jose Berrios than they were a few months ago.

According to Spotrac, Berrios is the sixth-ranked ‘MLB trade candidate’.

Who Says No To This Trade Idea?

Undoubtedly, the Blue Jays would be the ones to say no to this mock trade idea.

Berrios has been far too important to the Blue Jays’ rotation in the last few seasons.

Despite the stress fracture in his elbow, Berrios, when he returns, will likely be able to take the ball every fifth day for the rest of the season.

And if Toronto did decide to move on from their tenured starter, it might cost a little bit more than Andrew Benintendi to make a deal happen.
