Bo Nix Sends Strong Message on Broncos’ Running Back Situation

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix delivered a clear and confident message about his running back room this week.

As Broncos wire noted, He offered strong public support for a group suddenly thrust into the spotlight after the loss of starter J.K. Dobbins.

In Denver’s massive 22-19 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11, the Broncos rushing attack struggled statistically in their first game without Dobbins.

However, Nix praised the mindset, work ethic, and resiliency of RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie.

“There was no flinch from that group,” Nix said.

“I felt all week those guys were locked in, ready to roll.”

He highlighted McLaughlin’s professionalism: “He’s just done an incredible job as a team player.”

He also praised Harvey’s play style: “Just be RJ.. make guys miss and go score.”

Nix sends a strong and confident message to his RB group, emphasizing his full belief in the unit:

“They are young, which is exciting, and I know they are going to do just fine.”

Broncos’ RB Situation After the Dobbins Injury

The Broncos’ run game has looked very different since J.K. Dobbins was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury.

Against Kansas City’s top-10 run defense, Denver struggled to find traction on the ground, finishing with just 2.8 yards per carry.

RJ Harvey led the way with 11 carries for 30 yards, while Jaleel McLaughlin added six carries for 19 yards.

Those numbers weren’t eye-catching, but the context matters.

The Chiefs have one of the league’s best and most physical fronts, and Denver’s offensive game plan prioritized the downfield passing game.

Harvey, who is now the official starter, has shown flashes of real promise throughout his rookie season.

Through 11 weeks, he has recorded 244 rushing yards, 195 receiving yards, and six total touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per touch.

That is the same efficiency mark Dobbins posted before his injury.

Meanwhile, McLaughlin continues to be one of Denver’s most trusted change-of-pace options.

Nix’s comments reflected not just optimism, but a belief that both backs are built for expanded roles.

He highlighted McLaughlin’s experience and unselfish approach as well as his ability to deliver when his moment comes:

“He never complained one time… and then he scores a touchdown when he gets the call.”

McLaughlin has missed most of the season so far, but this was his first game with more than one carry on the season. He is primed for a bigger role going forward.

And with Washington allowing 137.5 rushing yards per game, the upcoming matchup gives the backfield a real chance to get back on track.

Denver’s Playoff Push Ramps Up

Despite all the injuries and challenges, the Broncos currently sit in 2nd place in the entire AFC and 1st in the AFC West.

They trail the Patriots by a half a game for the one seed.

In the division, they have a two game lead over the Chargers and a three game lead over the Chiefs.

Their ability to stay balanced offensively will be a major factor down the stretch.

The loss of Dobbins is significant as he was both a veteran presence and one of the offense’s most reliable playmakers.

But Nix made it clear the team is rallying around the remaining backs rather than dwelling on what’s missing.

For now, their quarterback believes in them. And in a playoff race this tight, that confidence carries real weight.

The Broncos have two easier games against the Commanders and Raiders in the next two weeks.

They then have to face the Packers, Jaguars, Chargers and Chiefs to end the season.
