On Saturday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox will host the San Diego Padres at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox are coming off a 5-2 win over the Padres (on Friday).

Before Saturday’s showdown with San Diego, manager Alex Cora announce an update on Triston Casas.

Underdog MLB wrote: “Cora: Triston Casas’ rib injury not as bad as initially feared; will begin swinging again on Monday.”

The 26-year-old has yet to appear in a game this season.

He is coming off a year where he batted .182 with three home runs, 11 RBI’s and five runs.

Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic wrote: “Casas is expected to begin swinging again on Monday. It wasn’t as severe as they feared. Crawford has four innings of up-down Monday and could begin a rehab assignment next week Sandoval begins his rehab assignment tomorrow for Double A Portland on the road”

Casas Struggling To Stay Healthy After Promising Start

During the 2023 season, Casas had a very promising season (at 23-years-old) where he batted .263 with 24 home runs and 65 RBI’s

That said, he has appeared in just 92 total games since that season.

Tyler Milliken wrote: “Some great news on Triston Casas: He will start his swinging progression on Monday. The soreness isn’t as severe as they feared, per @jcmccaffrey.

While there isn’t a role for Casas right now, he’s very important depth at 1B for Contreras, who’s had his fair share of injuries.”

Red Sox Right Now

The Red Sox went into the season with a lot of hope after reaching the 2025 MLB playoffs.

That said, they are off to a very slow start to the new year.

Right now, the Red Sox are 2-5 in their first seven games.
