Bournemouth piling misery on winless Southampton in south coast derby is an offer you can’t refuse

Movie buffs are captivated by the portrayal of weak-willed Fredo Corleone in The Godfather and The Godfather Part II and some may link the actor who excelled in the role to his outstanding work as the neurotic and unhinged Sal in Dog Day Afternoon along with his key roles in The Deer Hunter and The Conversation. But how many can actually name him?

His girlfriend was leading Hollywood light Meryl Streep and he only appeared in those five films, three of which won Best Picture at the Oscars with the other two being nominated, before losing his battle with lung cancer at the age of 42.

You know what he looks like but what’s his name? It’s on the tip of your tongue but no, you just can’t think of it.

Well, trying to recall John Cazale as the superb actor is rather like attempting to think of the player who will hit the opening goal in the Premier League battle between south coast neighbours Bournemouth and Southampton.

Unless you frequent the Hampshire border with Dorset or are a football geek, most of the players will be unfamiliar now that the Cherries have sold Dominic Solanke to Tottenham. Saints, meanwhile, have bankrolled their future by selling true stars such as Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Luke Shaw, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and many more.

But who are the big names playing in the Monday Night match? Well, there’s matey and whatshisname. Oh, and don’t forget good old thingamajig.

Bournemouth have only scored five league goals in as many matches in the top-flight this season and three of those came in the dramatic fight back at Everton where Antoine Semenyo started the recovery in the 87th minute and the visitors overcame a 2-0 deficit.

Semenyo also celebrated after hitting the late equaliser on the opening day at Nottingham Forest and had an effort ruled out by VAR in the 3-0 defeat at Liverpool, which makes him the pick to break the deadlock at 7/1 with SpreadEx while he is 43/20 with BetMGM to score at any time.

Tyler Dibling looks the next rising star on Southampton’s conveyor belt and he put them in front against Ipswich last weekend, only for the Tractor Boys to leave their hosts without a win by grabbing a late leveller, and he is 7/1 with bet365 to get on the scoresheet.

Bournemouth to win and both teams to score is 15/8 with the same firm and that’s an offer you will not want to refuse.

• Southampton manager Russell Martin is still available at 8/1 with Bet Victor to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post. After the derby with Bournemouth, Saints visit Arsenal then entertain Leicester City before heading to Manchester City and going into a crunch home game with Everton. Take the price before it disappears.

• The Detroit Lions were our hot ante-post pick to win the Super Bowl but have been slow out of the blocks, failing to impress in an overtime win against the Los Angeles Rams before losing at Tampa Bay and doing just enough against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday. They entertain the 3-0 Seattle Seahawks, who have beaten Denver, New England in overtime and then Miami in a one-sided affair, at Ford Field in a Monday Night Football encounter which could be a close call. The visitors, though, are just too big to ignore at 33/20 outright with William Hill.
