Brad Keselowski Breaks Leg in Ski Accident, Targets Return for Daytona 500

In a difficult week for NASCAR, RFK Racing co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski suffered a broken right leg during a family ski trip. Despite the injury, Keselowski is expected to make a full recovery and is aiming to compete in the 2026 Daytona 500.

The news came in a moment NASCAR community was shaken by a deadly plane crash that killed former Cup Series driver Greg Biffle and six others. According to NASCAR.com reporter Zack Albert, the crash occurred Thursday morning near Statesville, North Carolina.

RFK Racing addressed both events in a public statement, confirming Keselowski’s surgery while also acknowledging the broader loss felt across the sport.

RFK Racing released a statement Friday confirming that Keselowski broke his right leg during a ski trip with his family. The team said he underwent routine surgery the same day and is expected to recover fully.

“First and foremost, our hearts remain heavy with the news of yesterday’s tragic events, the statement read.” “The RFK Racing family, as well as the NASCAR community as a whole, continues to keep those close to the Biffle family and all those affected in our thoughts.

“Albeit untimely, we feel that in the interest of transparency, we share that  RFK Racing co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski suffered a broken leg while on a ski trip with his family on Thursday. Keselowski has completed routine surgery, and doctors expect a quick and full recovery.”

Keselowski said he is thankful for his medical team and support system as he begins his recovery. He added in a social media post that he is already taking steps forward and remains focused on being ready for Daytona.

“I’m grateful for the medical team who took great care of me, and for the support system around me, Keselowski said.” “My attention now is fully on recovery. I’m motivated to get back to full strength as quickly as possible and will work relentlessly to be ready for Daytona.”

“Life has a way of reminding you to slow down. Grateful for my family by my side, an excellent medical team, and the ability to take a few steps forward today. Focused on Daytona. Bonus – I’m now bionic!, he posted on Instagram.”

Recovery Timeline and Career Background

Keselowski underwent surgery on Thursday and remains focused on returning for the Daytona 500, scheduled for February 15, 2026. Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports noted that NASCAR rules would allow Keselowski to complete a test session before the race to determine medical clearance if needed

Keselowski is the 2012 NASCAR Cup champion and became a co-owner of RFK Racing in 2022. He drives the No. 6 Ford and has 36 career Cup Series victories. His most recent win came at Darlington Superspeedway in May 2024.

NASCAR Community Mourns Greg Biffle and Family

Earlier Thursday, a business jet crashed near Statesville Regional Airport, killing all seven people on board. NASCAR.com’s Zack Albert reported that Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, their two children, and three others were among the victims

Biffle was 55 and had been named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023. He won championships in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2000 and the Xfinity Series in 2002, along with 19 Cup Series races.

The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed that investigators recovered the aircraft’s cockpit voice recorder and said a preliminary report is expected within 30 days, according to Albert’s report
