The Atlanta Braves are having a nice offseason as MLB’s hot stove season continues. However, that does not mean they should stop making acquisitions and signings. It’s well known that the Braves need to add starting pitching. Although they’ve made moves to drastically improve their roster, like signing Mike Yastrzemski and Robert Suarez, no starters have been signed or traded for to this point.
MLB’s starting pitching market this offseason is very top-heavy, which means that the big arms will likely be pricey, but Braves’ GM Alex Anthopoulos has been on record saying both that Atlanta aims to spend this offseason and that the team needs another impact arm. A recent prediction has Atlanta poaching away Ranger Suarez from the Philadelphia Phillies.

JustBaseball.com Predicts Ranger Suarez to Sign With Braves
Southpaw starter Ranger Suarez is perhaps the second-best available starter on the market at this point behind Framber Valdez. Dylan Cease already signed with the Blue Jays, and fellow top arm Michael King signed with the San Diego Padres.
According to JustBaseball.com, Ranger Suarez is the sixth-best free agent available at the moment, and he’s being predicted to sign with the Braves on a five-year, $110 million deal:

“This updated team prediction comes from a recent dive I did into Ranger Suarez and what his fit would look like with the Atlanta Braves. The Braves could use a steady presence in the middle of their rotation, and also could use a second lefty to pair with Chris Sale. Likely priced out of the market for Framber Valdez, the Braves can shoot for Suarez, looking to poach from a division rival.”
Suarez would really benefit just about any rotation he joins, but the Braves have been adamant about adding another starter, and this would give them a chance to poach Ranger away from the Phillies.

What Ranger Suarez Brings to the Table
Ranger Suarez has started to become one of the more consistent starting pitchers across MLB over the past few seasons. He’s not known to go deep into games, but he can take the ball every fifth day.
In 2025, he posted a 3.20 ERA over 26 starts and punched out 151 batters.
He’s been very consistent in the low-mid 3.00 ERA range, and has also averaged around one strikeout per inning over his career.
BaseballReference.com projects Ranger Suarez to pitch in 154 innings next season and post an ERA of 3.62.
He is also expected to be one of the few starters to receive a contract north of $100 million this offseason. That $110 million contract that Just Baseball predicted might be a little high. It’s not that Suarez isn’t worth an AAV of $22 million, but it’s unclear if an MLB team will want to commit to the 30-year-old for five seasons.
