Breece Hall Speaks Out: What the Loss Reveals About the Jets’ Offense

The New York Jets came up short in a 27–14 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. Now sitting at 2–8, the Jets are once again facing scrutiny—especially at the quarterback position.

Justin Fields continues to show his great mobility, rushing for 67 yards, but the passing attack remains inconsistent. Fields finished last night’s game with just 116 passing yards, adding to the growing concerns about his ability to be a strong player in the passing game.

After Thursday night’s game, Jets star running back Breece Hall said, “I feel like Justin did his thing today and we’ve got to do a better job of making the game easier for him just like he wants to make it easy for us.”

“Honestly, it was really just on us not making plays. I felt like Justin played his tail off today. He put the ball out there. We’ve just got to do a better job of making plays for him. Not every ball’s going to be perfect. Not every situation’s going to be ideal, but at the end of the day, you’ve got to still find a way to make a play. I feel like as a skill group, we’ve got to do a better job of making it easier for our O-line and quarterback,” said Hall following the loss.

Others Weigh In After the Game

Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn weighed in on Field’s performance against the Patriots Thursday night after the loss.  Glenn said, “There are some good things, I thought he put some balls out there. We’ve got to have some guys that make some plays for him too.”

It’s worth noting that Fields delivered several catchable passes that were not pulled in, including a deep shot to newly acquired wide receiver Adonai Mitchell in the second quarter. Had Mitchell hauled it in, the Jets would have been set up inside the red zone.

“If I could really pinpoint anything, I would point the finger at myself and say I need to perform better. I just need to do better,” Mitchell said following the game.

When asked about his own performance against the Patriots, Fields said, “Every time we lose, my performance isn’t good enough.”

Alarming Numbers For the Jets Passing Game

On Friday, ESPN’s Rich Cimini wrote, “The Jets are averaging a league-low 139.9 passing yards per game. That would be the lowest in the NFL since the 2022 Bears (130.5). Common denominator: Justin Fields at QB.”

“Justin Fields managed to get over 100 passing yards for the second time in the last five games,” wrote Zack Rosenblatt from The Athletic.

“The results of the Jets-Patriots game ultimately didn’t matter much. Not for the Jets. The rest of this season, and that game, might as well be viewed as a prolonged preseason. It’s all about evaluation. Figuring out who will part of this team in 2026,” wrote Rosenblatt.

After the loss, Glenn said, “We’ve got to do a better job across the board.”
