Broncos Eyeing Surprising Decision Before Trade Deadline Passes

The Denver Broncos know they must strike while the iron is hot, and they are looking to further build out their roster around Bo Nix as the 2025 trade deadline approaches. They added Marcedes Lewis, but the Broncos could want even more firepower at tight end.

Lewis is a blocker and, even more, a strong locker room presence at this stage of his career.

The Broncos could be in the market for a more complete tight end to better complement Evan Engram, who is essentially the team’s No. 2 wide receiver behind Courtland Sutton.

Broncos Still Eyeing TE Market

The Broncos signed Engram in free agency, adding him to a group that already had Adam Trautman, Nate Adkins, and Lucas Krull. Lewis joined the Broncos in Week 9 amid Adkins’ knee injury. The trade deadline is on November 4 at 4 p.m. ET.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on the Broncos’ current trade plans.

“The Broncos are monitoring the tight end market, even after signing Marcedes Lewis to their practice squad,” Russini wrote on November 1.

Russini did not specify any targets that the Broncos are showing interest in. But Lewis was not the only tight end the Broncos pursued to upgrade their group. Russini also previously reported that they had eyes on TEs before the trade deadline.

“The Broncos are monitoring the tight end market,” Russini wrote on October 25.

Tight end is not the only position the Broncos have been linked to.  It could go overlooked given the Broncos’ circumstances and the chatter around other positions.

Broncos Among ‘Most Interesting’ Teams Before Trade Deadline

The uncertainty around the Broncos’ trade deadline plans has only increased intrigue about the team as it sits 6-2 and atop the AFC West. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler linked them to a trade for a wide receiver in a section focusing on Las Vegas Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers.

The Broncos have also been linked to various New Orleans Saints wideouts. Head coach Sean Payton’s ties to that organization make for an easy connection.

It all makes the Broncos one of the “most interesting” teams as the deadline approaches.

“Denver … has my attention,” Fowler wrote on October 29. “The Broncos have evaluated multiple spots, including offensive guard (with Ben Powers out) and the skill positions (either tight end or wide receiver). While I’m not convinced the Broncos will make a bold move, ideally Denver would like more of a classic, field-stretching receiving option to offset the skill sets already in place while also adding veteran experience.”

ESPN’s Dan Graziano wondered in that same article just how aggressive the Broncos might be. They must keep up with the usual contenders in the AFC. Where a tight end might fit into those plans is unclear, particularly after Lewis signed with the Broncos’ practice squad.

Week 9 Looms Large for Broncos

GettyDenver Broncos general manager George Paton speaks with reporters at the 2025 Scouting Combine.

The Broncos’ Week 9 showdown against the formidable Houston Texans team will likely be a significant factor in how Payton and Broncos general manager George Paton will operate at the trade deadline.

Payton has acknowledged an interest in exploring their options “at some point.”

“We would always pay attention to what we might be looking for,” Payton told reporters in October. “I think we have time to do that. But I’m not thinking about that right now.”

The Broncos will have fill-in starters at guard and cornerback in place of Powers and Pat Surtain II, respectively. A poor showing could force the Broncos to address either of those positions over tight end and wide receiver. They already boast a plethora of young options, particularly at WR.
