Broncos Receive Concerning Update on JK Dobbins’ Injury Status

The Denver Broncos may soon be without one of their most productive offensive weapons.

As CBS Sports noted, according to Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette, the team is “weighing whether to place running back J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve.”

The move would sideline him for at least four games.

Dobbins suffered a left foot injury during Thursday night’s 10-7 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

He exited the game after an apparent hip-drop tackle late in the third quarter.

While the injury was initially thought to be a mild sprain, the Broncos have since sent Dobbins for a second medical opinion.

This suggest there is concern it could be more serious.

“The Broncos are still contemplating the next steps,” Tomasson reported, adding that the timing of Denver’s Week 12 bye plays a role in the decision.

Placing Dobbins on IR before the bye would delay his earliest possible return until mid-December, since the bye week wouldn’t count toward the four-game minimum absence.

The team may opt to hold off on the move to see how Dobbins responds over the next few days.

As of now, he appears at significant risk of missing time for the first time all season.

Dobbins’ Injury Situation

Dobbins’ injury comes amid one of his most efficient stretches since entering the league.

The 26-year-old back has 153 carries for 772 yards (5.0 YPC) and four touchdowns through 10 games this season with Denver.

After completing his rookie deal with the Ravens, Dobbins went to the Chargers for a brief stint.

He then tested free agency in 2025, signing a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Broncos.

For a player who’s battled multiple injuries in recent years, this latest setback is particularly frustrating.

He tore his ACL in the 2021 preseason that wiped out his entire sophomore season.

Dobbins has struggled to stay consistently healthy ever since.

He missed nine games in 2022 after undergoing midseason knee surgery and played just one game in 2023 before suffering a season-ending Achilles tear in the Ravens’ opener.

Between 2021 and 2023, Dobbins suited up for only nine total games across three seasons, making his 2025 resurgence all the more impressive.

RJ Harvey’s Opportunity and Fantasy Football Impact

With Dobbins’ future status in doubt, rookie running back RJ Harvey is expected to be the next guy up in Denver’s backfield.

The rookie out of UCF has flashed explosiveness in limited opportunities.

So far this season, Harvey has just played 29.2% of snaps.

However, he still has averaged 4.3 yards per carry and has caught 25 passes for 175 yards and six total touchdowns.

If Dobbins is ruled out or placed on IR, Harvey could step into a major role both on early downs and in passing situations.

For fantasy football managers, Harvey should be viewed as one of the top waiver wire pickups of Week 11 or a major trade target.

His potential workload could mirror that of other breakout rookies this season.

The Broncos’ upcoming schedule features the Chiefs, Panthers, and Texans.

It presents matchups where Harvey could carve out meaningful production.

Denver remains hopeful that Dobbins can avoid a long-term absence.

However, the cautious tone from team insiders indicates that the Broncos’ backfield may soon belong to Harvey.
