Broncos Sign 6’1″ 296-Pound Defensive Tackle & Cut Rookie Linebacker

The Denver Broncos surprised a lot of people in 2024 when they made a run to the postseason. The gutsy decision to draft Bo Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft appears to have worked, and now, the Broncos are entering the 2025 season looking to find a way to build off of their breakout campaign.

For the most part, Denver has made their big roster moves already this offseason, although, as they showed on Wednesday when they traded Devaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints, they are still rounding out the edges of their roster. In addition to the Vele deal, the Broncos also announced another pair of roster moves on Wednesday.

Broncos Sign Michael Dwumfour, Release JB Brown

Even with the start of the regular season drawing near, the Broncos are still searching for ways to optimize their roster. That led to them signing Michael Dwumfour, who found his way into the NFL back in 2021 as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets. Since then, Dwumfour has bounced around the league in an attempt to find a consistent home.

In addition to the Jets, Dwumfour has spent time with the Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and Chicago Bears before finding his way to Denver. Throughout his career, Dwumfour has played in just 13 games, racking up 13 tackles and one fumble recovered during his limited time on the field.

In order to make room for Dwumfour, the Broncos released undrafted rookie linebacker JB Brown, opting to trade potential for established veteran talent. Dwumfour’s addition doesn’t necessarily jump off the page, but he provides depth at a key position for Denver should they need it over the next few weeks.

“The Broncos signed defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour, the team announced Wednesday,” Aric DiLalla wrote for the team’s website. “Denver waived rookie inside linebacker JB Brown in a corresponding move.”

Will Michael Dwumfour Make Broncos 53-Man Roster?

At this stage of the game, it’s going to be pretty tough for Dwumfour to crack the Broncos’ roster. His best shot of sticking around is as a depth option on the practice squad, but even then, that may not be in the cards. Denver is likely bringing Dwumfour in to see what he can offer. If he shines in practice, he could crack the practice squad, but if not, it gives them another player they are familiar with if they need defensive line help somewhere along the way in 2025.

For now, the Broncos seemed pretty well stocked on their defensive line, with Zach Allen, D.J. Jones, and John Franklin-Myers manning the starting spots for the time being. Injuries happen, though, and if any of these guys miss time, Denver is making sure they have their bases covered. For now, the Dwumfour signing is rather insignificant, but if things go awry for the Broncos on their d-line, he could be called upon to fill in and help out on this side of the ball.
