Browns Expected to Make Major Offensive Change Ahead of Titans Matchup

Shedeur Sanders will remain the Cleveland Browns‘ starting quarterback in Week 14.

After the Browns’ lopsided home loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Sanders will start again next week against the Tennessee Titans.

Although Sanders hasn’t thrown the ball all that much in either of his two starts, that is expected to change. NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that the Browns plan to open the playbook for Sanders against the Titans.

“The Browns, on the other hand, will be criticized this week for not letting Shedeur Sanders loose on San Francisco from a play-calling standpoint,” Breer wrote. “The reality: The weather stunk, and the coaches called the game to protect the rookie quarterback. My guess is he’ll get a little more rope against the Titans next weekend.”

Sanders went 16-of-25 for 149 yards and a touchdown against the 49ers‘ defense, but was sacked three times.

With the Browns now playing a weaker defense, Breer expects Stefanski and the coaching staff to let Sanders loose to really see what they have in him.

Stefanski Praises Sanders’ TD Pass

Sanders had mixed results again on Sunday, but he didn’t turn the ball over or make any crucial mistakes.

The rookie quarterback also threw his first home touchdown pass to rookie Harold Fannin Jr., which Stefanski was impressed with.

“Yeah, I thought that was really well executed,” Stefanski said postgame on Sunday. “Thought it was a good call by Tommy (Rees) in that situation. Felt really strongly about that call, that play. We’ve kind of have been waiting to get to it for a coupof le weeks. Had the right time for it.”

After Stefanski was impressed with Sanders’ performance, he announced the rookie quarterback will start again on Sunday.

“Yeah, I’d have to look at it,” Stefanski said when asked if Sanders improved from his first start. “Obviously, he’s battling like all of our guys are battling. I know there’s plays he wants back, but we’ll look at it, we’ll correct it.”

Although Stefanski named Sanders the starter against the Titans, the Browns coach wouldn’t confirm that he will remain the starter for the rest of the season.

“I’m not going to get into all that, other than to say we all have to just play better,” Stefanski concluded.

Sanders Knows He Has To Build Trust With Browns Receivers

Sanders made some nice throws on Sunday, but also made some mistakes and bad throws.

The rookie quarterback did not seem to be on the same page as Jerry Jeudy. After the game, he said they need to get more reps and chemistry in practice to have more success.

“We was running the ball – we ran the ball very well,” Sanders said postgame. “And when we got in certain passing situations and field position, everything like that, it wasn’t the best. It was a comfort level. I think, like, as players and as teammates, we have to be able to gel with each other and be comfortable with each other in every situation.

“That takes time, that takes a lot of things. So, this team is not going to be a microwave thing – we’re going to have sparks here and there, but it’s going to take time to be able to develop that chemistry with everybody.”

Sanders will remain getting the first-team reps, so the hope is he finds the chemistry come Sunday against the Titans.
