Quinshon Judkins is done for the year following his scary injury against the Buffalo Bills. But the Cleveland Browns‘ workhorse should be at full strength when preparations for next season begin.
Judkins went down with the injury at the end of the first half. The CBS broadcast declined to show the replay due to the gruesome nature of the play and Judkins was carted off the field shortly after.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski revealed after the game that Judkins suffered an ankle dislocation and a fractured fibula. Fortunately for Judkins, he did not damage ligaments, and he should be back when the team starts practicing in the spring, per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.
“Browns Quinshon Judkins’ injury (dislocated ankle, fractured fibula) is about a 4-5 month injury and he should be back practicing in the spring, league source tells me,” Cabot said after the game.
Browns Teammates Crushed for Quinshon Judkins
Judkins will finish his rookie year with 827 yards on 230 carries and seven touchdowns. He averaged just 3.6 yards per carry but spent most of the season playing behind a patchwork offensive line. He showed he can be the Browns’ workhorse moving forward.
Judkins’ teammates were devastated in the aftermath of the injury, including quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who was visibly shaken after delivering the pass on the play where Judkins was hurt.
“It really hurt that Quinshon went down,” Sanders said. “That was my only option, you know. So I feel bad because I threw it. But, yeah, truthfully, it hurts. It hurts.”
Browns veteran offensive guard Joel Bitonio echoed a similar sentiment.
“He’s my guy man, he’s my locker guy back in Berea. He works hard and he just loves ball,” Bitonio said. “To see a guy go and get hurt at that point is just unfortunate. Hopefully whatever it is he recovers quickly and he can get back. He’s young and hopefully everything heals quickly. When you see a guy go down like that it sucks, it’s the worst part of the game.”
Browns Shorthanded at Running Back Moving Forward
With Judkins out, the Browns are down their top three backs. Veteran Jerome Ford is out for the year and rookie Dylan Sampson has missed the last two games with an injury. Trayveon Williams and Raheim “Rocket” Sanders will carry the load the rest of the way.
Sanders had 11 carries for 42 yards in the loss. Williams had three carries for 17 yards and also chipped in four catches for 38 yards.
“Whoever is in there, we trust them. And I say that because they’re with us and they’re in every meeting and they’re at practice,” Stefanski said. “And sometimes you don’t get those opportunities, but you’re on the team because we trust you. So not surprised to see those guys come through. A couple really big plays with Trayveon, and I thought Rocket ran really hard.”
The Browns will host the Pittsburgh Steelers next week for their home finale. Cleveland wraps up the season on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.
