Browns Insider Reveals Team’s ‘Priority’ Ahead of Trade Deadline

The Cleveland Browns could surprisingly be buyers ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

Although Cleveland is 2-6 and last in the AFC North, the Browns could look to add some impact players at the deadline. NFL analyst Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan urges the Browns to acquire a receiver to give Dillon Gabriel some more offensive help.

“I would try and add an offensive tackle and a wide receiver,” Ruiter said on Monday. Preferably a wide receiver more than 6 feet tall. … I just think that is where the priority should be. I don’t think the Browns need draft picks; they need players at this point. It would be great if Andrew Berry could pull off another Greg Newsome-Tyson Campbell trade and bring in another player who can help this football team out.”

Ruiter believes the Browns should focus on giving Gabriel more weapons to see if he can be a franchise quarterback.

Also, the insider believes that means the Browns shouldn’t trade anyone on the offensive line, as Cleveland needs to protect Gabriel.

“I’m not a fan of trading any of the offensive linemen, even the guys on expiring contracts,” Ruiter added. “I just don’t think that makes sense when you have young quarterbacks and you already have offensive line problems as it is.”

Browns Could be Buyers at Deadline

Although Cleveland is last in the division and will likely miss the playoffs, the Browns are expected to look to add to their roster ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Browns’ surprising trade deadline plan is to be a buyer.

“While Cleveland already has completed three trades in the past month — acquiring offensive tackle Cam Robinson, sending quarterback Joe Flacco to Cincinnati, and swapping cornerbacks with Jacksonville — most sources believe that the Browns will be buyers more than sellers before the deadline,” Schefter wrote.

“The Browns do not sound inclined to trade tight end David Njoku, but they have been calling around the league, still looking to add quality young players to their roster.”

If Cleveland were a seller, the Browns have plenty of assets to give up. But, it appears that won’t be the case, as the Browns, instead, are focused on adding talent to their roster.

Cleveland is coming off their bye week and will go on the road to play the New York Jets on Sunday.

Kevin Stefanski Wants More Out of Offense

The Browns’ offense has struggled all season, but head coach Kevin Stefanski is remaining with Dillon Gabriel at quarterback.

Ahead of the bye week, Stefanski said Gabriel and the entire offense had to be better, and he was focused on making that happen.

“To have success as an offense, you have to be efficient in what you’re doing, and you have to be explosive in what you’re doing. And in order to do that, we have to put guys in certain spots, put them in whatever position it may be at – wide receiver, tight end, running back, if you will, and find ways to maximize their skill set,” Stefanski said.

“So, when you’re not having the success that we need to be having and we’re working towards, obviously we’re not doing enough. You’re constantly looking at different players, different ways that routes that they can run, run concepts that they can run. So, you have to continue to search for those things so that you can be efficient and then ultimately explosive.”

The Browns offense will look to get back on track against a struggling Jets team.
