Browns’ Myles Garrett Dismisses War of Words With Derrick Henry

Cleveland Browns safety Grant Delpit stirred the pot with his comments on Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, but Myles Garrett isn’t interested in adding to the drama.

Delpit was asked this week about the difficulty of taking down the 6-foot-3, 250-pound Henry, who rumbled for 169 yards last week against the Buffalo Bills.

“Not hard,” Delpit said.

Henry heard Delpit’s comment and responded during his media availability later in the day.

“He had a quote,” Henry said. “We’ll see on Sunday.”

As the veteran leader of the Browns’ defense, Garrett offered a steadier response. The former Defensive Player of the Year prefers to let his performance do the talking.

“We got to go out there and prove him. Talk is cheap,” Garrett said. “I mean, he’s a hell of a player. He’s a Hall of Fame talent, but got to go out there and have our guys back. So we’re going to support him in the best way we can, and that’s by slowing him down and stopping the run game and nullifying their best talents as best as we can.”

Browns Face Challenge Against Ravens’ Rushing Attack

The Ravens dropped their opener in crushing fashion to the Bills, who stormed back with a fourth-quarter comeback. But for most of the matchup, Baltimore’s rushing attack looked nearly unstoppable, led by Henry and quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Baltimore piled up 432 yards of offense, including 238 on the ground. Jackson added 70 rushing yards and delivered a handful of escapes in the backfield that only he can make.

“There’s just the inherent unpredictability about what he’s going to do with that athleticism. How soon he’s going to scramble through what holes and to what extent is he going to stay behind the line,” Garrett said. “Is he going to throw it or is he going to do like he did against the (Buffalo) Bills and run seven yards, get 19 yards, and you just don’t know.”

Browns Star Myles Garrett Well Aware of Underdog Status

The Browns head to Baltimore as a very significant underdog. As of Friday, Baltimore is listed as an 11.5-point favorite. Garrett admitted it’s something he’s kept his eye on and is motivated by.

“It was 12.5, last time I checked,” Garrett said when asked about the spread. “That definitely goes to my mind when we’re working throughout the week.”

Other Browns have also expressed their feelings about the game being seen as a potential blowout.

“It is definitely disrespect, but we just have to go in there and take care of business regardless of what people may think and who they’ve got winning or losing the game,” Browns Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward said. “We have to go in and try to beat the odds. They put us against the odds, we’ve we got to go in there and try to beat it.”

The Browns and Ravens have split the last six matchups, winning three apiece. Cleveland won the first matchup last season between the AFC North foes despite being a 7.5-point underdog at home.
