Browns’ Myles Garrett Responds to Calls Bench Dillon Gabriel for Shedeur Sanders

For Browns star pass-rusher Myles Garrett, the frustration of the 2025 season appears to have gone past that which can be measured in normal human emotion, much the way infrared light lies beyond the ability of human eyes to see it. Garrett’s frustration seems to have taken him to a place of almost Zen acceptance–not that he likes or is OK with losing, just that he understands there is a natural order to things.

And right now, the natural order is for the Browns to find new and bizarre ways to lose. On Sunday, against the struggling Jets–who were 1-7 coming into the game–the Browns lost a game in which they held opposing quarterback Justin Fields to 54 yards passing, outgained the New York offense, 278-169, and limited New York to 12 first downs while getting 23 of their own.

The Jets scored touchdowns–twice–on special teams, once with a kick return and once with a punt return. Minds were boggled.

Amid it all, Garrett was asked what has become a standard question around Browns folks in recent weeks: Should the team stick with Dillon Gabriel as the starting quarterback, or make a change to fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders?

Myles Garrett Dodges Shedeur Sanders Issue

Garrett, at first, did not hear the question, or pretended not to. It’s not the kind of thing, after all, a defensive lineman typically is asked. But this is the Browns, and the Shedeur Sanders vs. Dillon Gabriel issue is going to hover for a long while.

Garrett dodged, though.

“Quarterback direction has nothing to do with me,” Garrett said. “I am worried about the defense and us giving up the points we did and the first downs that we did. Who we stick with at quarterback is up to Kevin.”

Browns Frustration Palpable for Myles Garrett

What Garrett is more interested in is how this Browns team handles this loss. There have been frustrating defeats for Cleveland throughout the season, but coming out of a bye and still playing as scattered as the Browns did against a bad football team stings especially.

But Garrett is hoping that his team does not turn on itself and begin assigning blame to teammates.

“Frustration is frustration,” Garrett said. “Try your best not to point fingers. You just try to clear up what you can and execute the best that you can. Be part of the solution, so, we just gotta be better.”

Browns ‘Gotta Suit Up’ Whether Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel at QB

Most of all, the challenge in front of the Browns now is how to find some meaning for the back end of the schedule. They’d need to win seven straight to finish over .500, and there is not much about this team–with Sanders or with Gabriel–to suggest it’s got a winning streak like that in it.

Garrett, as a team leader, will try to pass his Zen on to others, to get them to give top effort in the present no matter how ugly 2025’s past or how bleak its future.

“I don’t care how they feel,” Garrett said when asked about worrying whether his teammates will feel defeated.

“You gotta suit up. There’s still an opportunity, there’s still a chance. We still have eight more games. You never know what’s going to happen. I am going to make sure there is no quit in this team, I haven’t seen it before. It’s not going happen now. I am going to make sure everybody mans up and still knows exactly what the directive is.”
