Browns’ Myles Garrett Rumor Blown Up as False by Insider

Trae rumors involving Myles Garrett were flying around the trade deadline and one prominent proposed deal that would have brought back a massive haul had “zero truth.”

The proposed trade would have shipped off Garrett to the Philadelphia Eagles for three first-round picks. It would have been a massive haul but warranted for a former Defensive Player of the Year who has had 14 or more sacks for four straight seasons and is well on the way to doing it again this year.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is known for wheeling and dealing. He did not deny the Garrett trade chatter when asked about it

“When there are opportunities to be aggressive for the right players, we’re not going to sit on our hands,” Roseman said. “You don’t have great success without taking great risks. We can’t be afraid to fail. I think a lot of times, for you to get to the top, you have to be willing to take chances that may look controversial at times. I won’t live with regret.”

That being said, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com said that the deal was never on the table.

Despite Eagles GM Howie Roseman not dispelling the rumors, there’s zero truth to the rumors,” Cabot said. “Reports circulated on social media in the week leading up to Tuesday’s deadline that the Eagles were prepared to give up as many as three first-round picks for the future Hall of Famer. But they never made such an offer.”

Browns Star Myles Garrett Did Not Worry About Trade Rumors

Trading Garrett was never a realistic option for the Browns from a logistical standpoint after signing him to a four-year, $160 million extension this offseason. Cleveland views the star pass-rusher as the cornerstone of its franchise moving forward. Still, an offer of three first-round picks would’ve at least forced the Browns to listen.

Garrett, meanwhile, didn’t waste any energy worrying about the speculation.

“I wasn’t concerned about anything involving a trade with me or anybody else on this team,” Garrett said Friday. “I was just focused on feeling better, getting my head in a better space after the week before. I’m trying to find a way to continue to bring it every week.”

Garrett entered Sunday tied for the league lead in sacks with 10. He posted five in Cleveland’s Week 8 matchup against the New England Patriots.

Browns Quiet at Trade Deadline

The Browns have made multiple trades this season but did not end up doing much at the trade deadline. Garrett didn’t mind because it kept key veterans in the locker room — a sign of faith from the front office.

“I mean, (GM Andrew Berry) does that, then I think we all kind of look around and say we’re kind of letting it go. We’re falling into a rebuild instead of a focus on this year and trying to find a way up out of this hole that we dug ourselves,” Garrett said. “So, he still believes that we can win. He’s shown that we’re sticking with these guys in this locker room and continue to be invested. So, we’re happy to just do it together and we got to make the most of it.”

It was quiet for Cleveland, but the team did attempt to make a move for a receiver, a position of need for the Browns.

The Browns had a deal in place for Colts receiver AD Mitchell, but he ended up being part of Indianapolis’ deal for Sauce Gardner.
