The Cleveland Browns are predicted to continue to roll with Shedeur Sanders as their franchise quarterback.
Sanders has started three straight games and had a breakout game on Sunday, in the Browns’ 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans. However, Sanders played well as he threw for three touchdowns and also rushed for one.
Following Sanders’ great game, the Browns are now predicted to remain with him at quarterback and instead of drafting a quarterback, go all-in on giving him more help.
Browns analyst Jared Mueller of Dawgs By Nature predicts Cleveland will use their two first-round picks on offensive help.
- First round – OT Caleb Lomu, Utah
- First round – WR Denzel Boston, Washington
“The top tackle in the draft heads to Cleveland to protect Sanders. … This year’s draft has a lot of interesting receivers. Boston’s size gives him the leg up on KC Concepcion for this pick,” Mueller wrote.
Mueller predicts the Browns will bypass taking a quarterback in 2026 and instead roll with Sanders and Deshaun Watson next season. The analyst also predicts the Browns will take another receiver in the second round.
- Second round – WR Jakobi Lane, USC
“Doubling up on bigger receivers with a history of production should immediately upgrade the Browns offense around Sanders,” Mueller added.
If Cleveland views Sanders as their long-term answer, it will open the door for it to build out the rest of the roster in the NFL Draft.
Browns Coach Pleased With Sanders’ Performance
Although Cleveland lost to the Titans on Sunday, Sanders did play well.
The rookie quarterback had the best performance of his career, and head coach Kevin Stefanski was impressed by it.
“Yeah, he fought throughout the game, which we knew he would,” Stefanski said postgame. “Obviously, with any young player. There’s gonna be ups and downs, and I thought there were some really, really, really good moments. He’ll keep learning from some of the plays that he wants back, but some really good moments.”
Sanders looks like he could be a long-term answer at quarterback for the Browns. However, Cleveland did take Sanders off the field in a game-tying two-point conversion attempt, which was a surprise, and he said it was a call they liked.
“Yeah, not going to get into all the specifics, but obviously did not go as we thought it would,” Stefanski said. … “It’s a two-point play. Didn’t come through on our first two-point play, got to the second two-point play, we didn’t come through. But that’s on me.”
The Browns will go on the road to play the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Sanders Discusses Two-Point Play
With the Browns looking to tie the game on a two-point conversion, Sanders wasn’t on the field.
Following the loss, Sanders said he wished he had the ball in his hands, but he was fine with the play call.
“If I’m out there any play, I would wish I would always have the ball in my hand, but that’s not what football is,” Sanders said. “Sometimes you got to run the ball, sometimes you got to kick a field goal. You know, everything like, that’s the game. That’s the most important thing, is the ball. So in any situation, of course, you would want to. But I know we practiced something, and we executed it in practice, and we just didn’t seem to this day. So, I would never go against, you know, kind of like what the call was or anything.”
Sanders threw for 364 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception, while also rushing for a touchdown.
