Browns QB Dillon Gabriel Gets Bad News Amid Latest Drama

Dillon Gabriel has found himself in the middle of fresh drama, and his chances of getting back on the field for the Cleveland Browns this season appear increasingly slim.

Gabriel’s fiancée, Zoe Caswell, stirred things up recently with comments that many interpreted as a subtle shot at Shedeur Sanders, who has started the last three games. Caswell claimed that “everyone in the building” wants Gabriel to play again. However, that doesn’t appear to reflect reality.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, it’s unlikely Gabriel will reclaim the starting role this season.

“I don’t think you’re going to see Dillon Gabriel on the field this season, unless Shedeur has to come out of the game for one reason or another. I think that it’s going to be Shedeur the rest of the way. I think they do see something in him and want to know if they need to draft a quarterback in April,” Cabot said on 92.3 The Fan. “I think Dillon will be back with the team next year. I don’t know if he’s going to get much of an opportunity the rest of this year.”

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Has Earned Longer Look

Cabot said that Sanders deserves a longer look based on his first two starts. But she also pointed out that the offense being an overall mess makes it hard to properly evaluate Sanders.

“I think he’s showing some signs that perhaps maybe he actually can be a winning QB in the NFL. He does have that ‘it’ factor, he’s got a nice strong arm, the ability to evade the rush — he’s showing some things,” Cabot said. “I think what makes this evaluation difficult is that the offense is horrible. Even an established veteran would have a hard time stepping in with the way this offense has functioned.”

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski has said he’s evaluating the quarterback situation on a week-to-week basis. He assured that Sanders will start on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

“I like the one week at a time thing. It keeps him hungry,” Cabot said. “He doesn’t need to be feeling like he’s arrived yet.”

Shedeur Sanders Building Trust With Browns Receivers

Sanders has passed for 405 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in 10 quarters of play this season. One of the major issues Sanders has had is a lack of chemistry with his pass-catchers. He received no time with the starting offense prior to entering the Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens when Gabriel went down with a concussion.

That was evident in a 26-8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He and Jerry Jeudy — his top targer — were not on the same page and had a heated sideline exchange. Sanders said it comes down to trust.

“This team is not going to be a microwave thing. We’re going to have sparks here and there, but it’s going to take time to be able to develop that chemistry with everybody, to be on the same page with Jerry,” Sanders said. “Of course, you want to be able to get him the ball, but you got to understand it takes time. I’m more of a trust person, and that’s just what it boils down to. So, we have to spend time on task with all those guys, and be able to trust and be able to see things at the same lens.”

Sanders and Jeudy have a prime opportunity to get on track this week against the one-win Titans.
