Browns QB Dillon Gabriel’s Fiancée Responds to Backlash in New Statement

The fiancée of Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel has responded to the backlash she’s received over her recent social media comments.

Zoe Caswell posted a TikTok video with the caption, “Browns lost what’s new,” along with a crying laughing emoji. Many perceived it as a shot at Shedeur Sanders, who took the starting spot from Gabriel. Sanders started the Week 13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The post unleashed a wave of criticism online, and her follow-up posts didn’t make it much better.

“Actually everyone in the building wants him to play. But you wouldn’t know that [because] you’ve never played in the NFL or been a [coach] right,” Caswell said in response to a comment.

Caswell later tried to play the comment off as a joke in a longer statement, adding that she had received some disturbing messages.

“To the people commenting and DMing me disgusting things, you are insanely uninformed and have no clue what you are talking about,” Caswell said. “I support the Browns and WHOEVER is playing 100%. I would joke about us losing when Dillon was playing or not. Please take a joke and calm down. Thanks.”

Zoe Caswell Has Spared With Browns Fans Previously

It’s not the first time Caswell has spoken out about how Gabriel has been treated in Cleveland. She previously shared a forceful message after he was knocked out of the Browns’ Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens with a concussion — the injury that opened the door for Sanders to take over.

“To those of you who have reached out concerned about Dillon, he is doing great and will be back soon! We are grateful for your support,” Caswell said in a TikTok video. “And to the ‘Browns’ fans at the game on Sunday night — if you cheered at the start of the second half knowing he was hurt, there’s a special place in h*** for you. You should feel ashamed of yourselves. Players are real people, not fictional characters in a movie. Do better, be better.”

To be fair, it wasn’t immediately obvious inside the stadium that Gabriel had exited because of an injury. And based on his performance, it also wasn’t clear that he wouldn’t be benched for ineffectiveness. Gabriel went 1–5 as the starter, throwing for 937 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions.

Shedeur Sanders to Remain Browns Starter

The Browns will continue to roll with Sanders as their starting quarterback this week against the Tennessee Titans. He’s gone 1-1 in his first two starts, passing for 405 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions over that span. He’s completing 50.8% of his passes and has posted a quarterback rating of 69.4.

The Browns didn’t win last week, but Browns coach Kevin Stefanski came away optimistic about Sanders’ improvement.

“Shedeur had some really good moments in that football game. There are things that he wants back that we’re coaching up right now that he can improve upon. But bottom line is we have to continue to put our players in position to succeed,” Stefanski said. “For the young quarterback, you only get better with more turns at this thing in these games, as you see more coverages, as you see more defenses and as you prepare versus different defenses. So just looking forward to that constant improvement with Shedeur and for all of our young players.”

Stefanski has maintained that the Browns are evaluating their quarterback situation on a week-to-week basis. If Sanders falters, Gabriel could still work his way back into the starting role.
